You may well be right, but at the time of writing, it seemed to me that it may well be possible to find a commercial sampler with high end features which would provide an advantage even as a playback device ... eg, complex pitch, and sample length matching, formant preservation etc .... stuff that might not be immediately noticable, but would provide a level of capacity and quality, even in playback mode, which would give the user a distinct advantage.
Thats just an example, and there may not be a sampler worth using which has those features, but if it does, then by defining the criteria for our sampler, we've plugged that hole before it opens!!
