I'm just not getting the XY controls settings. The handles and the shaded rectangle. I think I can get the white line. Do the handles represent real number bounds? I know the manual is probably a good explanation but I still don't get it...

thanks for any help...

Hehehe, hard stuff, I know...

So, the shaded rectangle:

This one represents the actual range of the parameter.

Example: Filter Cutoff goes from 0.00 to 150.00. Hence, the left border of the rectangle represents 0.00, while the right border is 150.00.

Now, in the XY assignment control thing, the current value (here: as set with the Filter Cutoff knob) of the parameter always is in the center. Hence, if Cutoff is set to 0.00, the rectangle is on the right half of the slider thing, so the the left border of the recatngle is in the center. Now, as you turn up the Cutoff value, the rectangle moves to the left, so that the current value remains in the center, up until you reach 150.00 where the rectangle has moved fully to the left side.

how to read stuff:

The white line moves with the XY control itself, along the X axis or Y axis. I'll explain for Y axis.

If you move an XY up from the middle to the top, the white line heads from the center of the slider thing to the upper marker. When the XY reaches the full top position, the white line reaches the marker. When dragging the XY down from it's center position, the white line heads to the lower marker.

Now, look at the end of the white line.

The end of the white line shows the impact of the XY control on the parameter.

The actual value is added or substracted from the parameter's real value, as set in the Synthesis pane.

Back to the Cutoff example: If you look the end of the white line and we assume it ends at 75% of the Cutoff rectangle, the resulting Cutoff value will be roundabout 110.00. If the white line approaches the right border of the rectangle, or shoots beyond it, Cutoff will be set to 150.00, but not higher.

This is quite strong stuff to get a clue about, so i will do 2 things:

- Improve the documentation with more illustrations
- Add automatic assignment macros, that analyse the settings and make things easier, like a setup assistant

Hope this helps,

cheers,

;) Urs
