Afternoon,

I had a vsti glitch on me and sent a crash report to the dev, and they came back telling me that MU.LAB doesn't actually create note-offs but creates another velocity 0 note to imitate it. Is that true?

I never felt this was a source of much trouble but apparently it's very non-standard and bound to create a lot of compatibility issues, especially with non-velocity sensitive synths. It's not that big a deal (I reckon most synths are vel. sensitive), but maybe it can create other glitches as well.

OSX 10.4.11

Note on velocity zero is a required means of sending Note Off in order to support "running status". If there's something that doesn't support it, then it is at fault. Send the developer to the MIDI standards and tell them to read them.

hehe. trapped in the details of technology I don't understand...
I'll choose to believe an old Muzys campaigner and give it a rest.

Yep, note-on (0x90) + velocity 0 is a standard way of doing note offs.

I think it's only very old MIDI gear that only understands the explicit note-off messages (0x80).

I agree the plug developer should support both ways; not a difficult job :)
