That would be very good of you. But, as ever, don't put this ahead of other really useful stuffUrs wrote:I've been thinking that I could probably offer a similar service with a little php script. You can upload a patch or two and then you get an email with a confirmation link. All entries can be put in a zip and hosts for download, all in an automated process...hakey wrote:maybe the authors could submit their patches to a public, or invite-only folder on one of the file sharing sites
This needs a captcha though, otherwise the server will be full of crap.
Hmmmm... now I just need the time to dive into php...

Yeah no kidding, now I'm really really surprised. I won't say which one (at least until the contest was over) but I was fairly confident which one was Michael's.Urs wrote:WTF?!? I could have sworn...hakey wrote:Michael Kastrup didn't submit a patch

Thanks MCnoone.. for some reason Zebra has been acting strangely for me.MCnoone wrote:I just noticed a mistake? In the preset "A Moment Dripping of Menace". Under Voice Mix tab the 1st row is turned "off" (red light is on), no lines are crossed to the 2nd channel row. No sound is getting through to the main on the 1st row. That might not have been the intention on this patch.

I hope we don't have to wait too long!hakey wrote:(Besides, the deadline for submissions for the next contest - if it happens - will, of course, be some weeks away).

Well it's just a case of whether we wait until voting ends for this contest (which, I would think, shouldn't be any later than one week from Monday), or whether to announce it earlier?very angry mobster wrote:I hope we don't have to wait too long!hakey wrote:(Besides, the deadline for submissions for the next contest - if it happens - will, of course, be some weeks away).
I also need to think about how to collect the entries - the collaborative online folder option seems perfectly workable for now.
It might be a good idea to settle the questions around contest time format - time for submissions, time for voting, turnaround etc. - before the next comp; should it be once-fornightly, threeweekly, monthly? Do we announce the next task as voting is taking place? That kind of thing.
Anyway, I've got an idea for the next one that, I hope, will be slightly less specific (as the Metropolis theme has tended towards a certain type of patch, ie weird effects, which, as MC pointed out, may have put some people off), but at the same time force people to really think about, and explore, Zebra's nooks and crannies - basically a 'freestyle' (any type of patch), but with a set of 'architectural' restrictions

Oh and thanks to everyone who's voted so far, and, of course, to everyone who submitted a patch!
As many have said it really is a difficult task to choose three out of the bunch (I'm glad I exempted myself from the vote), there are some really good patches in there and each one of them has got something going for it.

Hmm.. the rate of voting seems to be dropping off now, though, going by the number of dls from the Box.net folder, there's a good many who haven't yet voted. So how long should we let it continue for? Should we wrap up on Monday and move on to the next contest, or let it go for another week?

Yep, that would be good!hakey wrote:Should we wrap up on Monday and move on to the next contest

I know I joked about Voltz!+ earlier but it really is a shame you didn't enter that as your preset. It's actually my favorite overall. I love the sound of sparks and electricity! You even did the V-wire with the electricity between it sound (whatever that thing is called). Awesome.hakey wrote:Oh and thanks to everyone who's voted so far, and, of course, to everyone who submitted a patch!

Thanks! TBH, I wasn't 100% happy with it. I pretty much got the effect that I wanted (I was aiming for the sound that the spacecraft made in the 1930's Flash Gordon films), but I wasn't sure that it really justified the number of modules used, plus I couldn't get it quite loud enough without clipping (probably because there's an awful lot of harmonic content in there).bmrzycki wrote:I know I joked about Voltz!+ earlier but it really is a shame you didn't enter that as your preset. I might try having another look at it some time

Ok, voting ends Monday night (midnight GMT), so can everyone who hasn't yet voted make their minds up sooner rather than later :wink . Those patch designers who haven't yet voted might also want to do so. And voting is, of course, open to anyone.

I'm having a really hard time here... I think I'd rather not vote, if I may...hakey wrote:(Are you voting Urs, or would you rather remain neutral?)
I'd rather work a bit more on the prize so that I may have not only an AU prototype but also a VST Win version ready to go

You know you could just give a copy to the 11 entrants and then you'd have a solid group of Alpha/beta testers capable of providing a diverse range of presets....Urs wrote:I'm having a really hard time here... Sorry, wishful thinking.
