kv331 wrote:One important tip about partial presets :

When you save "partial" presets, for instance Osc 1, the modulator settings for that section is saved as well. For instance, If ADSR Env2 is modulating wave index parameters, ADSR Env2 settings are saved as well along with Osc1's settings.

Thank you, nice hint. So if i don't want this i will delete the modulation setting before saving the partials. Saving partials of an OSC is very nice for e.g. saving a wavetable of 16 waves.

Here's another tip:

"Hard Sync" works with wavetable oscillators as well. So, you can try this:

Turn on Osc
Make Osc2 wavetable oscillator.
Modulate Osc2's pitch with an envelope/midi velocity
Modulate Osc2's wave index with an envelope/midi velocity
Sync Osc2 to Osc1 by pressing the Sync button.

UPDATE:
Something about the different versions Of Synthmaster 2.0:

- Standalone: works very stable

- VST with Tobybear MiniHost: Only a white/blank screen

- VST with Ableton Live 8.0.0.4 : Mostly OK but i had a crash once when i wanted to save an existing patch with the "Save" button. Could not reproduce this so far.

other things:

- When i overwrite an existing partial setting for e.g. the OSC1 after that the name appears 2 times in the "select a preset" list. When i restart the program/the DAW it's normal again.

- If i want to use a saved partial preset for OSC1 on OSC2 this has no effect. The saved partials are available in the drop down list at OSC2 but they have no effect on OSC2.

Will fix the above tonight!

- Same problem for other partials like ADSR envelopes or filter settings. The saved settings only work on the module (e.g. OSC1 or ADSR3) they were saved on. They could not be used on other similar modules (e.g. OSC2 or ADSR1).

- Partial settings which are saved for example on ADSR3 in Layer1 don't work on ADSR3 in Layer2.

- Settings saved on the "normal" LFO1 and LFO2 seem to work on the other LFOs too but those settings don't work if you try to use them on the SynthLFOs 1-4.

Hey folks,

Would it be better to display the "spectrum" for wavetable oscillators?
So when you turn the "wave index" knob you'd see how the spectrum changes in time?

Both maybe?

short conclusion for the partials bugs:

It seems that saved partials settings only work on the partial they are saved on and not on any similar partials. example: ADSR1 settings don't work on ADSR2. Settings of Layer 1 don't work on Layer 2.

I confirmed that problem for the OSCs, filters, ADSRs and Layers. LFO1 setting work on LFO2 but not on SynthLFOs.

I am hoping to fix this partial preset load bug as it is a big obstacle in sound design :)

Anyhow, I'll try to modify the osc view control as well so that it displays the spectrum of the waveforms as well, so that during sound design the spectrums can give guidance.

I made 5 patches for Synthmaster 1.9.9.8 :
LINK DELETED, ALL PATCHES INCLUDED IN SYNTHMASTER v1.9.9.10 AND MY LAST UPDATE FROM 1.8.2009.

They are mostly for testing the wavetables and envelopes, so nothing totally complicated. Basically the wavetable patches use the features of a PPG Wave 2.3.

UPDATE:
At thee moment I try doing some PWM stuff with the "basic" oscillator. Works really nice, especially when using two detuned OSCs.
Also doing a "hypersaw" with the additive oscillator works really well. For that you choose the sawtooth waveform on all additive waveforms, set all to the same harmonics and detune them a bit.
Also added some additive and mixed patches now. All together 13 patches now:

http://rapidshare.com/files/261034814/I ... es__02.zip

I tried to add categories in the "Preset Info" for all patches now.

All those patches so far are a kind of templates for me for doing more complex ones.

- The interpolation between the waveforms in the wavetable seems to be very smooth. This could be seen best when morphing between two waves.

- bug? : How does the setting for the "Easy controls" work? Maybe it's not implemented so far.

- The crash while saving the patch in the VST version could still not be reproduced. Maybe it was no problem of Synthmaster.

Wow, great patches :) I'm totally impressed!

BTW, here's another tip: In "additive" mode, we have the pulse waveform as well

So? We can create "HyperPulse" waveforms :) The "Phase" parameter is actually the pulse width!

Also, dont forget the MIDI velocity. It's a great modulator in creating subtle timbre differences!

Thanks that you like the patches, you could use them for the factory sounds if you like.
In the 13 patches from the last zip file i tried to make "templates" from different synthesis methods of Synthmaster like Basic VA, PWM, hypersaw, wavetables, wave morph (e.g. square to saw), additive and mixes of them. One also uses a comb filter which gives some unusual results.
I mostly used the same settings for the envelopes and filters but the patches still sound different.

I will base new, more complex, patches on those "template patches" since they contain most of the basic settings for the different synthesis methods. I also saved some partials for OSCs, ADSR and filters. Had to do that for every partial until the bug is fixed.

Hey, dont rush into saving partial presets yet. Wait for tonight's build!

I think I forgot one important thing when saving the partial preset. Anyhow I'll fix it tonight.
