It's subtle anyway
I just downloaded a free oscilloscope plugin for checking the effect of the RM and other things: http://sonictransfer.com/free-vstau-oscilloscope.shtml

I'll try to compare to the pictures in my post above.

I used the oscilloscope plugin for looking at Synthmasters RM. Made two screenshots: http://rapidshare.com/files/261289574/S ... cope_1.zip

Only OSC1 and Modulator1 used for RM.

files:
1.) Synthmaster RM sine_sine: OSC1: Sine, Modulator1: Sine (detuned)
2.) Synthmaster RM square_saw 1: OSC1: Square, Modulator1: Saw

In one of my posts above i showed some pictures how ring modulation and amplitude modulation should look like. For me the results in the oscilloscope looks like a ring modulation.

Add DC to the modulator and try again. That should be AM.

Looks like you're right. So without DC it's RM and with DC it's AM. Or am i wrong? At least the result is totally different with and without DC.

You're correct!

There was also the joint Steinberg/ReFX Xphraze. These are the ones you should compare Largo to.
SynthMaster 2.0 can also do wavesequencing for upto 16 wavetables, and much more: AM/RM, FM/PM, Hard Sync, additive, VA.

Right now we have 16 waves, but we'll increase the number to 32.

Bulent
Only for not mixing up the terms. Synthmaster uses a huge amount of WAVEFORMS, and can use up to 16 WAVEFORMS for one WAVETABLE. Those 16 waveforms then are interpolated to give a continuous wavetable with 128 steps.

Sorry Bulent. I am a school teacher (chemistry and physics) so sometimes i cant help myself correcting... :D

BTW: School holidays end next week so less time for music/synths...

It's actually more than 128! 128*127 would be the correct resolution -> 14 bits.

I meant you could only select 128 steps with the selection knob. I am sure there is still interpolation between those steps. I guess when modulating with an envelope or LFO the resolution is higher.

- I found that the LFOs could need some delay slider or knob. You could have nice effects when the LFO doesn't always start immediately.

- I finally had the second crash in Ableton Live 8. Last one was tomorrow morning. It happened when i wanted to overwrite an existing file with the "Save as..." function. The first time it was when using the "Save" button.

BTW, I found out the reason for the easy controls bug. I fixed it, and also added modulators for easy controls as well, so that they can be modulated via MIDI CC

So you think we need 2 stage envelope, (attack and release) for the LFOs?

I guess just a slider or knob for the delay/offset time would be enough. This way it's also implemented in many other synths like e.g. Jupiter 8V, Largo, PPG Wave 2.V. But a knob for the offset/delay time could be modulated by e.g. a ADSR envelope.

So basically a knob with modulation rings is needed. In Jupiter 8 they call it "Delay time", in Largo and Alchemy just "Delay". The amount should be seen in seconds. The range could be from 0 to 10 seconds (other synths use 8 to 20 s).

BTW i just recognized that the LFOs could be used in step mode. Very nice.

Well, in the mean time, an ADSR envelope can be used for that purpose :)

You are right. I just have to attach an envelope to the LFO Volume knob. :dog:

So a "Delay" knob with a specific time would be nice but not absolutely necessary.

Here is the update of my Synthmaster patches. It's 27 patches now, mostly pads.

link: LINK DELETED, ALL PATCHES INCLUDED IN SYNTHMASTER v1.9.9.10 AND MY LAST UPDATE FROM 1.8.2009.

Some of the older patches are updated so you could overwrite all patches if you already have them.

UPDATE:

I currently try to use the "Step" and "Glide" mode of the LFOs for wavetable modulation. This results in some interesting "wavesequencing" since you can choose any of the 16 waveforms of a wavetable(and between) at every step. With 16 or 32 steps this leads to interesting results.
