How many are using MuLab as a Main DAW?

Hi Liquidsound,
Just been over to the energyxt forum.
My that makes some interesting reading.
Is no one happy with their DAWs on this planet.
Jo its seems that not all EnergyXT users are happy bunnies.
M3 maybe what everyone is looking for, we shall see.
Keep up the good work.

Same here
I think Jo and Jorgen beside the JJ what they have in common is that they are trying to give us something new away from the BS of the major players:
Tons of feature. 16 million colors.... have you ever seen a B&W picture that froze you heart in time? I did. This what I mean.
To me the finest little jewel was XT1.41 and I discovered it too late. It is a closed box and no further future.
MuLab to me has one fake obstacle: RMB implementation.
I totally agree with its current use of it in here but with a twist the RMB has Magic and tremendous power. I will show it in the video.
Jo can have it both on top of his Classic MuLab framework, but he needs users like us that are coming here with healthy needs and not going away, yet...
There was a comment from a an old XT user, in their forum, and he said to me when I mentioned MuLab that Jo was on of the guy that he would had really loved to sit down and have a cup of coffee with him. I agree.
So lets see how to make this Gem a freaking MONSTER.

Another opinion ....
I use MuLab for the majority of my projects. The main reason is speed from start to finish, it is so easy to get a project off the ground, and provides all the tools to polish any track. So far, I can't tell the difference in results when compared to other similar DAW.
I also like the selective management of plugins, unlike most other DAW that simply manage a VST folder(s), MuLab provides selective management of the VST collection - and ease of adding a new plugin at a moments notice in the midst of a project.
Yes, I use other DAW for proprietary features and specialty issues. MuLab provides a lot of value for the price. It also works well on portable platforms so when working on projects in several locations it really shines.

Yes! They are NEVER happy over there. Mostly because they miss XT1.41.
Very demanding crowd. I posted some nasty comments but they are invisible to them.
Anyway ReWire is not near MuLab implementation: it can only route one stereo and six mono channels. I got this from a music magazine because I do not have the box version.
Rewire in MuLab is at its finest for me especially when I mount Reason in the Modular area with each Reason instrument to individual Racks...I love how easy it's done.
Ok let me get to the little video. Couple of hours.

I'm going to give the same straight answer i gave to some people via email:anubis2010 wrote:Jo I did ask you already when M3 will be released, but you have since spoken about beta/test versions. Can you give us an idea when the first test release may be available.
M3 has had some development bottlenecks for a couple of reasons (technical reasons and personal reasons), and so it took/takes more dev-time than expected. Which is a pity.
But since i want to release M3 preferably sooner than later, i've lowered some ambitions for M3 so to manage its development cycle time. Some magic functionalities i planned for M3 will be postponed to M3.x or M4 for the sake of realism. Even then M3 will have enough improvements to be a very nice step forward
Now to answer your question: It's always difficult to predict dev-time but i hope to release a first M3 Test in 6-8 weeks. That first test version will still be 'hot' meaning that it might still contain bugs but also that it will still be possible to change/add/finetune things on functional level.
I'm very much looking forward myself to discuss M3 Test A with you.
Anyway, between this and Test A, i'll post more questions/polls here because i need your input on certain aspects. So the M3 ball is certainly rolling.
Huh, why should i want that? Because you're giving your straight opinion?One thing I should say, if you wish me to leave your forum just say the word and I am gone.
Hey, sharing your opinion that's exactly what i want!
Please continue doing so, even if it's criticism;
Especially when it's criticism! (as long as it's grounded with reasons)
Because that's how we can improve things!

Hi Jo,
I think you are stuck with me and I have become a MU.LAB addict.
Sometimes I say things to get a response from some of the other forum members. They seem a very quiet bunch (nice people of course) and I sometimes set myself up as a fall guy (punchbag).
I think it would be a good idea to get a few of your polls going. The polls seem to get the most views and opinions.
After all none of us seem to be happy with our DAWs and I for one can only program "Hello World" in BASIC. So Jo it is now up to you. Write us that lite stable DAW we have all dreamed of.

Here is the video.

Before I forget: there was, some time ago in a Topic here, a subject about a very clever function with Compositions:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... on#3621139
This is what I would call "The MuLab Difference", among others...( if implemented), and it is something that many Pro would consider, especially if it could be integrated with video editing.
See, MuLab is still simple enough to be flexible but it requires Jo to use is mind to the extreme in order to keep it all under the Simplicity Act!
I know he can and that's why I not leaving this place. Period!

This is for anubis2010:
XT2 has a bug with z3ta+ and the developer is not even answering the post.
It goes off tune, up to a full note. But not always, Just when it is important to you!!

Thanks a lot for the video!
I can say that M3 indeed has greatly improved editor scrolling/panning behaviour much like you show in the video. 80% of that is already implemented in M3
Now some specific questions about the video:
* You wrote "MW = Scrolling, blending without stops".
What do you mean with the 'blending without stops'?
* What software do you use to make such videos?
It's on the whishlist.Before I forget: there was, some time ago in a Topic here, a subject about a very clever function with Compositions:

Hi Jo, you're welcome.
"MW = Scrolling, blending without stops" means that while you Scroll the Mouse Wheel, by moving the pointer in these areas the scrolling keeps going. No need to reset just because is a different Zone or Movement.
The brilliant use of the RMB is that is used to achieving "4 Very Important Actions" in the proper order of usage and priority in most cases:
RMB = Free Scroll
RMB = Delete
RMB = Context Menu
RMB+Alt = Split Note
Just one time a modifier key is used and this leaves the mind focused on the Flow.
I know you have a deal with the Context Menu but adding these kind of actions, the Menu is used less often during compositions (and still full accessible right there),
at least for musicians like me that needs to work a lot with the post editing or when the keyboard is not available.
Actually it drives me crazy when just by accident I press the RMB and the Menu appear.
(In the video you see the colors are taken from MuLab...
)
The program I am using is Camtasia Studio 5, a standard in Video Tutorials, which I use to create CAD tutorials for my designers when they hit a wall.
Yes the Composition feature will be a Killer. Like the Tempo Changes window, it could be used that way also.
The beauty of MuLab is that even though everything works well together is still, in my impression, very modular in its components (meaning they have their little universe) which leaves room for growth and power without getting in its own way.
XT has that problem I think. It is already crystallized probably up to the end without room for the users to say much but wish.
Thank you for your responses.
Now you have Two people that would like to sit with you and have a cup of coffee (when I will return home to Europe).

r u sirius?
XT2's MIDI editing capabilities are a long way from being halfway as extensive as MuLab's.
The same goes for most of the rest of the application.
MuLab has real audio-streaming support for instance - XT2 sequences audio events instead.

that's what I'm wondering as well - XT2's MIDI-editing is really very very basic.mutools wrote:Which MIDI editing functions do you mean?anubis2010 wrote:5) MIDI editing is very good hopefully M3 will have similar functions.

I think he's referring to the sequencing hand on Notes/Navigation/Editing flow...I think...because MuLab is not there yet, but like I said, MuLab is a much better host than XT in the overall foundation and eventual direction.
XT Mixer is also well designed. Modularity: MuLab 100%, for me.
