I agree that it's mostly a product for current Reason users, but if they forced that mixer and the new layout with 3 seperate screens on the current Reason users there would propably be a storm of complaints.
I mean, there's still alot of people saying the old sequencer was better.. not that I can understand that.

I was all over this until I found out I can't really import my 24-track live reordings into it. I LOVE the mixer. Really. I'd do everything in Record: learn the workflow, ignore the haters, rewire (still), everything. I have a lot of time for the props. If I could mix my live recordings.

But it just takes too long to import a 60 minute wav to be bothered importing 24 60-minute wavs.

Maybe I need a new computer.

Users have been asking for multiple rack columns and a rack window with adjustable width in Reason for 9 years now, I somehow doubt they're disappointed once they finally got it in Record.

In case the new mixer scares the crap out of anyone they can stick with the old 14:2 mixer, just put it at the top of the rack and plug it straight into the hardware device, bypassing the big mixer. While they're at it they can also hide the big mixer and just have the sequencer and the rack, like in Reason.

Err... what old sequencer, the one in Reason 4? It's the same damn sequencer, except the one in Record has the following improvements... A) audio feedback for manipulation of notes on the piano roll, B) ir merges new notes into existing clips instead of creating new clips, and C) it has a cleaner layout because the grid lines are now white (the R4 sequencer has black gridlines that makes it look more cluttered). Anyone who feels that's a downtrade from the R4 sequencer is complaining just for the heck of it.

I was thinking about when Reason was upgraded from 3 to 4. I've seen alot of complaints about it on various forums.
I think the old sequencer in Reason 1-3 was terrible, but got pretty good in v4 and a little bit better in Record. But they should add a better drumeditor.

The new explore and expand features in Record are amazing for working with drums. Also being able to edit clips that are next to the selected clip is a huge improvement. There's tons of great minor improvements like that making it essential for any Reason user (except for people just using reason as a rewire instrument).

See, this is one problem I have with Record. As somebody who loves using Reason I want these upgrades, ... but I don't like several aspects of Record. The copy protection is nowhere near as benign as they claim, the failure to integrate the SSL mixer properly with the Rack is plain nutty... etc.

When - if ever - can Reason users get the update they surely deserve, to include all these improvements to Reason that Record users will get? (I have no problem paying to upgrade Reason 4 to Reason 5... I just don't want to be lumbered with what I think is probably the worst-designed audio recording software ever.)

Oh, THAT one... the sequencer in 1.0-3.0. Well, I don't even know what to say about that... it was kind of the MIDI sequencer equivalent of Notepad.exe. It was just something they put there to enable Reason to play demo songs... you couldn't name clips and the clip colors were randomized and couldn't be selected freely, and oddly you could also put notes outside of clips (or "groups" as they were called then). Nah, the R4 sequencer is much better. My only gripe with it is the way it creates a new clip for every overdub, but that's been fixed in Record, so...

(I knew the Logic thread wouldn't last as long the Record thread. Just thought I'd point that out.) Back on topic.

I've been researching and demoing both Reason and Record the past few days and have been seriously thinking of making the switch from Cubase 5.
I love the idea of an all-in-one system with limited choices in terms of sound sources, it would certainly stop me wasting too much time thinking if I need to buy this or that.
Reason, Record and a wave editor with some choice mastering plugs (T-Racks 3 for example) for mastering would be all I need (maybe).
I'm not 100% convinced though. Still mulling it over.

I'll gladly buy some of your VST plugins if you make the switch. ;)

:hihi:

I don't have so much to sell really as I like to keep it simple (one of the *reasons* Reason/Record appeals to me so much)...Cubase 5 would be the big seller..

There's a lot to be said for that approach. At one time I was downloading every freebie I could get my hands on. It seemed like a good idea at the time but all that happened was that I just filled my HD with endless plugs very few of which I actually used. Apart from ImpOSCar 2 & a few choice FX plugs I seem to have lost interest in plugs. Maybe buying more hardware & also being a Reason user has something to do with it but a lot of the reason is to avoid the glut of plugs that are out there. I'm toying with the idea of a basic VST host, for the few that I do use, that I can record into Record. I'm not for the idea of VST support in Record But I still wish that I could control my external gear from it.
