No controversy... this is patently illegal. (at least in the "states")

Ask SONY.

I wonder if there actually is any code, but by impling it the crack will take much longer to come out as they crackers worry about how to approach cracking it. This means there is onl one way to get the program which ultimately helps boost sales

just a thought
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Post

OK, I made a copy of the splashscreen so that we could be sure about what we're talking.
Vojtek from MeldaProduction has always been a cool and serious guy, so instead of insulting him, I think we should wait him to come here and discuss about that.
I remember this has already been discussed, there's a legal point of view, and an ethic one. Good starting point.
You can't always get what you waaaant...

It doesn't say "self destructive" code though does it.

To me it looks perfectly clear what they're saying.

"If the software thinks it's been tampered with, (god only knows what logic it uses to determine this), put your operating system between your legs and kiss it's sweet ass goodbye"

Otherwise they wouldn't be rubbing it in by singing, "Ha har, we can screw your system, because we think your a vile hacker!" at the end.

:D

Based on that splash screen alone, I know what I think without anyone else's excuses or explanations. If ANY code exists in MDrummer which wilfully damages other peoples operating systems it is illegal and more to the point, just downright wrong.

If code does not exists and the message is just a threat, then it is irresponsible and ill thought through to say the least (but in that case how he runs his business is down to him - personally, I doubt he'll have one for much longer with splash screens like that).

Right, off to do something constructive now. (As opposed to "DESTRUCTIVE" - Melda Productions... I'm looking @ you!).

Nor does it say 'code which will damage your operating system', but you've been claiming that since the first post.
Like I said, these are not native English speakers. A phrase like 'self destructive code' requires a better grasp of the nuances of English than 'this code will damage your system'
To me it looks perfectly clear what they're saying.
Yes we understand what you have assumed. That doesnt make it factual though. Until you actually know one way or the other, what's your agenda for insisting on one specific interpretation?

Come on Vojtech, clear this up.

Post

I'm just speechless...

I don't own MDrummer but I have registered the free plugins and just ordered MReverb. I hope they won't extend this to their other products.

If the code destroy their own software there's no need to put an alert.

Here we have two or three crimes:

First: it is illegal to do something like this in almost all countries of the world (maybe it is allowed in Antarctica), also if the user is an illegal user. When you are victim of a crime you are not entitled to act like a cop or use DIY justice methods (for example you can't take a bomb in your card in order to make it explode in case has been stolen).

Second: threatening messages are a crime. This is a threatening message.

...and third: if they have problems with english translations they are responsible of that. If I say "I kill Obama" instead of "I love Obama", I'm responsible of what I'm saying, and I have to give explanation. Anyway this is not the case, because this is clearly what davidhokney is saying.

I'm glad I held back on that new verb of theirs - hopefully this is a misunderstanding but how it reads from the splash screen certainly could be taken to imply something nasty - even if it is just badly written it needs clarifying and I'm not going near it till it is.

Post

this is totally unacceptable!
i think it dosent confirm with existing legal rights to destroy information systems at will.
the only way for existing customers is to avaoid any new start of melda software and completly clean uninstall it, removing any exe's and dll's
what a shame

Wasn't the guy from MeldaProductions banned in the past?
Could some veteran KVRist confirm this?

Post

MDrummer is not a system.
And you don't threat anybody by destroying your own software installation.

This is a genuine threat - tamper with us and we tamper with you!

I can't believe this, how dare they?
How dare they risk even their own customers???

Absolutely inexcusable.
They should refund their customers and close.

If you actually look at the Melda webpage, it breaks MDrummer down into the 'Sound System', composed of five or six other parts, and the 'Rhythm System'. Thats the nomenclature they have seemingly always used.

Given that the dictionary definition of the word 'system' is
1. an assemblage or combination of things or parts forming a complex or unitary whole
then, yes, MDrummer is a system, and they already refer to it as being a system.

But hell, no need to worry about that sort of possibility when a KVR witchhunt is underway, eh?

Just scanned the installer with ClamWin antivirus which came up negative. However I tried to install using Sandboxie so I could scan what's inside but it wouldn't let me - said it couldn't find a registry key?? Strange - things like that don't usually affect Sandboxie.

I've always had only positive communications with Vojtech.
English is a second language for him and that could be part of the problem.
I'm sure he'll do his best to explain and hopefully clear things up.
