Suggestions so far:

I would echo that having an audio input and triggerable Envs, also , more modulation input points (LFO rate, etc...) would be nice and more 'modular'.

Also-also, I miss the growl of XMF, maybe filter 2 could be an XMF? :D

As far as other modules, I would suggest a delay (for delay/flange/chorus/comb effects) and a nice distortion/shaper unit!

I wasn't figuring on Satan Jr. Unfortunately. :hihi:

Difficult in all points...

(I'm currently struggling to preserve the growl of XMF in the XMF itself while at the same time keeping the promise for better volume control...)

Totally understandable!

You have a vision for Berlin, and I know it is mostly about a particular sound quality over having every feature a virtual modular could have.

Thanks Urs!

I just got my QMMG and now I have a hankering for Low Pass-Gates in the berlin modular. I tried to emulate the behavior by using the slew limiters to slow down fast transients a bit but that doesn't cover how the feedback/resonance effects the sound.

The question is... Can Urs make a software vactrol? I believe he can. :)

I'm immensely enjoying the alphavi...Bazille. One thing that came to mind - would it be possible to implement some kind of a highlighting system for the cables, as the patches get pretty messy very quickly. Floating labels might cause a bit too much flickering all over, but at least making the end points "glow" or something subtle like that would probably help things to be seen enough.

I think we'll have 6 colours, randomly chosen. Like a bucket of cables in 6 colours, and whenever you place one, it's going to be drawn from the bucket.

We'll see... still way too early to make his a final decison...

My bad - I actually meant that there could be a sort of mouseover highlighting for the existing cables, so it'd help show where the cable goes when you put your cursor on it. Colour coding is good (and a must), but it only goes so far — especially when you're inspecting someone else's patches.

Yep, I know what you mean...

Cable highlighting is something that is so far away that I won't even try to imagine it

What about module highlighting? Could highlight the modules that are connected to the last/current one interacted with, or something like that. Zebra does this somewhat, although the dynamic layout there makes it less necessary to reading the patch; it was really helpful to me when first getting a handle on it though.

Also is limiting the number of voices something that's likely to work well for reducing CPU usage with Bazille? I can't complain about the CPU usage of a free alpha preview of something really special, but just wondering, of course.

On my machine it basically never chokes when set on mono or duophonic modes...it's only in poly mode when I try to bust four or more notes at once, or play a fast sequence where there's note overlap.

I've just started messing with Ableton's slice-to-midi multisampling function as a way to play some of the heavier patches in poly mode...as long as velocity and such isn't a big concern, it works great, and you can even ladle filter/lfo/envelope goodness over it. There's always a workaround I guess, even if it's not absolutely perfect.

Perfection would be a laptop the size of a macbook air with dual quad cores and a TB of storage. :)

Bazille has a switch for 4/8/16 note polyphony, but it isn't in the gui yet. I might cut it down to 3/6/9 or something. I always find it confusing when I have to set the exact number of voices in other synths, it always makes me think about the way I compose ("uh, gotta make this chord a bit thinner... it's one note more than previous chord, a voice must be stolen"). Hence I prefer to leave people in the dark ("few", "medium", "many") and if it doesn't sound right, they can just up the number.

I agree with that philosophy. Though I'm from the "bunches", "lots", "tons", school myself.

Well, the "expansion" tab at the bottom will let you choose an additional module. But that would be it.

...

If you need an unlimited number of modules per system then Berlin Modular simply doesn't deliver.

Dirty secret: When Zebrify came out, I was ecstatic, because I was able to use it to process the raw oscillator from Ultra Analog through it....

Bazille could become a bigger Beast-Easter than even Zebra. With this puppy, I don't care if my Micron dies a slow painful death. I'm no longer searching around for the perfect sound. The end.

Also, since Numerology allows me to modulate anything with anything, I appreciate that Bazille is not trying to be everything. I like its defined form a LOT.

Everyone is going to have their special feature requests and preferences. But me, I really do like this thing the way it is. It's frickin' perfect.

So perfect it forced me to finally FIND a job so that I can afford the full release...

:tu: ... sounds like an offer too good to refuse. I'm in!!! :D

Peace,
Andy.
I'd love to purchase this as well.

+1 Me too :D
