Yeah well, it depends on whatever the guy that wrote the code for the slider wanted, so either depends on lib/sdk for stock controls, or plugin writer if they made their own control (or modified an existing one).deraudrl wrote: What controls this behavior? Is it strictly a matter of which library/SDK is used to build the GUI?

probably becasue they arederaudrl wrote:Yes, but not the way you mean. I've got 59-year-old eyes and a 1680x1050 monitor: a lot of VST GUIs are smaller than I'd like. Way too many of them look like they were designed for 800x600 laptop screens.Hlis93 wrote:2. Do you worry much about the amount of monitor space that is consumed by the plug-in?

Little fun to change things up for myself this evening. I tried my best to emulate the Mopho hardware device in Skinman/Knobman. I did have to do a little editing in Photoshop. Had to clip the circles to size and add the line around the text for the Mopho logo. Other then that its all done in skinman/knobman. Not sure if I would call it photo realistic but that was the goal of the practice.

because in a .knobfile an png is embedded, for the knobfile to be previewed in whatever picture viewer ... that's what i.e. captures, as it can't open a .knobfile, as it doesn't know it ...deraudrl wrote:>snip< I'm just trying to figure our why IE sees ".knob" and reads it as ".png". >snip<

Good job thereHlis93 wrote:![]()
When I first saw the 'For Practice', I misread it as 'For Prance', and thought you were very homorously sending up the 'what are the best synths for trance' questions that get asked.. A whole new synth devoted to prance would be awesome, that might be my DC09 entry! (if I get time to make something..)

can you make trance without a virus?

i have to do a advertising graphic for use in a printed magazine, i'm going to do it in skinman.
it must be din a4, professional printable. what's the size i have to set up in the canvas for the project?
i don't know the dpi that skinman uses, and as i read, this has to be known before setting the size ...

Projects for print need to be at a minimum of 300dpi. The more the better imo, although that will start eating up lots of memory.brok landers wrote:so i have a questions for you graphic guru's:

You also need to check with the printer/publisher what margin sizes are required. Again, minimum of 3mm is advisable.

Very nice! It would be good to use that with a little bounce as the needle hits the end

It's nice wok.
However, its very large file exported. This brings me to another question concerning the practical application animations in plug-ins and how people are doing them. For me it would be better to cut the image down to just the needle and use the image of the meter as part of the background image, no need to have the full VU in every frame since its static and doesn't have any internally moving parts. I'm always looking to cut things out of the animation and make it part of the background. So I guess the question is does any one do this as well?
…Or perhaps I'm just a bit late on the practical insight everyone else already knows...

Hi
In the past I've often done the animations having a background layer, a 'needle' layer and a half transparent glass/effect layer on top of it.
From a subjective perspective that gave the best results.
