quickmix :

did you try to cable the iac bus to the sequencer input object instead of directly to a synth ?

That way you could record the outputted midi in logic from eloquence but timing is problaby way off...

Anxious to hear from you !

Since obviously Eloquence is somewhat of a "work in progress", is this the official discussion/bug thread?

I want to start learning it, but need to know where to go to discuss issues, updates, etc.

My strategy is to start by using what sounds like a very capable built-in internal synth (thanks SB) and learn the lay of the land. Then I will attempt to send this data to other synths.

Would still like to know if all of the MIDI data generated by Eloquence can be transferred to a MIDI track (tracks) in the host sequencer such as Cubase?

Thanks!

Hello JPark83,

it's no problem to send Eloquence data to any VSTi or record it in your DAW with all performances. It's described in the manual. You just have to create two MIDI tracks. The first one is for controlling Eloquence. You put an Eloquence plugin as a VSTi in it. Then you choose Eloquence as the MIDI input for the second one. When you create an Eloquence instance, you will see it in your list of input devices. Now you can send this data to any VSTi or external device and record it.

I "misused" it yesterday to create a drum loop and was happy with the results too :-)

Yes,
It is very easy in ableton Live anyway. While Eloquence is playing, just click record in one of the midi cells of the synth Eloquence is controlling, and it will record the midi that is being routed. Then you can stop using Eloquence if your CPU is topping out, or you can use the editing features of Live to enhance the midi you've recorded.

The difference is, ... I have bought Eloquence and not Consequence :-)

Consequence is more a accompanist. You put chords in it and can mangle it. But you can only use the internal synthesizer of Consequence.

Eloquence is more a lead and bassline tool. And the most important difference for me: you can send this data to any device you like.

Not true,
Consequence outputs midi in exactly the same way Eloquence does. Consequence is more focused on being a chord bank, where Eloquence is more of a lead, bass line step sequencer. Consequence has an arpeggiator, while Eloquence does not. Consequence has a huge bank of chords which you can insert into a sequence and then arp each chord in any manner you choose. Eloquence has some very cool and easy to access features to take a midi sequence and transpose, loop or bend them in realtime. The difference is subtle. I'm more drawn to Eloquence. I think the interface looks cleaner and it suits my style of writing more, but you should check out both of the demos before you buy one.

When I first installed the Eloquence demo, I noticed that although it was in sync with the external midi clock, it wasn't starting and stopping with Live's sequencer. In other words, when I hit stop, Eloquence doesn't play nice and keeps on kicking the ball. I had to refer to the manual in order to figure out how to get it to start and stop with Live's transport. This seems rather counter intuitive. While I'm sure there are reasons someone might want to disconnect Eloquence from the transport, most of the time people will want it starting and stopping when they hit pay & stop. I think you might want to change the default settings in Eloquence to trigger and stop with the transport. Otherwise, It might be very confusing for new users.

Thanks for correcting this. Maybe I will have another try with Consequence too :-)

I downed the demo and I must admit that this is a very nice app. I didn't really try out the built in synth though. I figured it be a bout the same as the one in Consequence, which is nice, but I'm ok with my setup as is. I ran Eloquence through Albino and Zebra and it worked really well(in Live). I haven't opened the manual yet but I'll get to it before the demo expires. However, it seems to be quite intuitive and I was able to tweak things just fine without any crashes.

I'm sure I'll be adding this one to my tool set very soon. Nice job.

I think these are little anomalies which will be worked out by the developer(s) and released as version upgrades. It's definitely a work in progress, but as far as I can tell a mighty one.

Remember, we're the pioneers here.

I noticed this too. Sometimes it was syncing with Cubase, other times it seemed not to. I will experiment with it some more. But while the development team works these things out, I'll have plenty to play with just letting Eloquence sequence on its own, and triggering my other VST synths. Really an amazing device.

BTW, psst....It's an arpeggiator too! You just need to get more melodic awareness of what an arpeggiator does. In the meantime, I'm also interested in the Catanya from 7 Aliens. Love this whole modular idea.

Basically there are 2 modes.

Play along with your HOST and Trigger Patterns by Midi.
The mode is choosen by the 'Trigger Mode' setting.

Once you have choosen your preferred mode it should stay the same.
This setting is not stored in a normal Presets.
It's only recalled by your song and on startup.
The same applies for the the 'Trigger By' mode and the Synth On/off switch.

I bought it last night, and am having a blast, very cool toy. One problem is I can't seem to save my patterns. It looks simple, select save and the standard dialogue opens, I type in a file name and hit save. It doesn't seem to work for me. I am using the Audio Unit version in both Renoise and Logic. Can't find anything in the manual about saving, probably because it is so obvious, am I doing it wrong, or is it a bug? Any one else having a problem?

Hi Fatfreddy, please have a look in what folder you are saving to.
It should be the USER folder in the Global Presets Folder.
That one resides in the Eloquence program/Content folder.

Hello Rico,
Thanks for getting back to me. That is where I am saving to, Applications/Sugar Bytes/Eloquence/Content/Global Presets/User. The save dialogue takes you straight there, but I have also tried navigating to it myself to be sure I was saving to the correct place. It does not seem to save the file. The new name shows in the preset field, but does not actually appear in the folder. The only file in the user folder is Default.sbe. I have tried it loads of times in both hosts. I am on OSX 10.8 using the latest version of Renoise, and Logic Express 8, also latest version. It must be something I am doing wrong, but I can't imagine what.

Hi, just tried this, works fine. You should be able to see that a file.sbe is created. The file comes up fine in the Eloquence preset menu. The preset menu of Logic shows the Factory1 folder only, thats why you dont see the preset there.
