OK, time to add waveform import. WAV import comes first tonight.

As I said, there will be NO user interface for now. Just put them Resources\UserWaveforms\foldername where foldername is the category of the waveform.

Of course, we wont save the waveform data in the preset, so the presets wont work for other users if they DONT have those waveforms under their UserWaveforms folders.

Not suggesting you copy the competition, but the Wuskikstation has a clever workaround to that issue: a menu option to save a preset and its associated sound files in a transportable package file (AKA 'wusikPACK' format). When it's reloaded it asks if you want to overwrite existing files, so any waveform edits are not lost.

Rather elegant solution, IMHO.

Yeah, but how about the copyright issue?

For instance if I own Galbanum Architecture CE, and use wavetables from this product, and distribute them in my presets? What happens in that case?

It is NOT a technical, but rather a LEGAL issue

Wow cool additions made in the last updates (Spectrum view - shift->default value - and categories for the waveforms - really helpful.

Including waveforms into presets could get tricky (both legally - and in regards of disk space: we would get different presets which would contain the same waveforms)

Perhaps you can give the user the option to save the waveforms used in a preset under a special preset format (e.g. .smprw) so they can be easily shared and the user must take care of the legal issues.

Here is a little update on the patches (sorry still not really categorized - the daywork didn't allow much free time last weeks).

And a little bug :
when inserting a new point in the Key Scale and dragging it right away, it gets pushed to the left of the "key scale window".
So when you create the point with left click - release and then drag, than it's working. But "creating the point - not releasing the left mouse button and trying to drag" leads to this error.

Yes, but that (non-)issue already exists. How is distributing a "smPACK" file containing a copyrighted wavetable different from distributing the same wavetable and preset in a ZIP file? Either way, the legal issue is with the person doing the distribution, not the person who provided the 'pack' file functionality. Otherwise the WinZip people would get sued every time a copyrighted file was emailed inside a ZIP file.

In any case, the whole point is that the wavetable isn't actually "in the preset", but the 'pack' file loading process ensures that it ends up where the preset expects it to be.

FYI: We are already embedding segmented waveforms inside presets if they use any  So WAV files are no big deal :)

Hey, just DELETE the Resource folder and then extract the archive. I'll fix that problem by adding a switch to the config file to force rebuild wavetable cache.

I'm testing wave import with the above archive (not all of them, but tried to use about 200 of them, and categorized as well)

Do you think we could distribute those at least? Are they royalty free?

EDIT: I imported the waveforms, this is really cool 8) As least if we can distribute the above waveforms, that'd be sufficient for us initially.

I don't have any clue about it's legal background. But it is possible to post waves it as a 3rd party pack, alongside the synthmaster. So on paper synthmaster doesn't contain it. ;)

I just submitted a question on the other forum to the creators of the sample library. Hopefuly they'll let us use their sample library.

I hope it will be accepted and you can categorize normally that much amount

Well, right now we have 1 level categorization of waveforms. If we have 1000+ waveforms we probably have to make it 2 level for user waveforms?

Right now, our existing main categories are:

AM
Asymmetrical
FM
INVF
Iterations
Other
Quantized
Random
UHF

If I can support 2 levels of categorization, I can add Sampled or Analog main category, and under that we can have the following sub-categories:

Arp Odyssey
Arp 2600
Arp Pro-Soloist
Fairlight CMI
Prophet VS
Buchla
Roland JX3p
Roland JX8P
Roland System 100
HP Oscillator
Modulus Monowave
PPG 2.2 or 2.3
Access Virus
Kawai K3M
Elektron SID station
Elektron Monomachine
Korg 800 DV
Les Paul Guitar
Rhodes Chroma
Rhodes Polaris
Vox Organs
Synthi AKS
Waldorf Pulse
Yamaha CS80
SCI Pro One
SCI Prophet 600
DSI Prophet 8
Elka Synthex
Crumar Performer
EDP Gnat
EMS VCS3
Mellotron
Korg Trident
Korg Delta
Oberheim Matrix 1000
Oberheim OB8
PAIA Fatman

Any thoughts are welcome!

Also, you guys should be patient during the import process :D Importing 300 waveforms should take about 3-4 minutes initially. Why? Due to our synthesis engine, we resample waveforms at regular intervals, like every 2/3 semitones, and resampling is expensive, since we use a very high order FIR lowpass filter for that purpose. (Technical DSP terms, nevermind!)

Man, I am really sold on this single cycle waveform stuff :D

Our own Teoman Pasinlioglu has many ANALOG synthesizers, he can prepare samples of his synths for SynthMaster!!!

I see your enthusiasm, and agree with it! :P
"Sampled" sub category should be fine, as we know what machines they are based on

Also, I'd suggest adding some way to quick-change the waves without opening the browser. When using tons of "unknown" or numbercoded waveforms quickness is necessary

Like ctrl+left click on the little waveform icon changes to the next and ctrl+right click changes to the previous one

Shift+ctrl clicks should change the group
