I posted this on the 'preset request' section but had had no joy, so I thought I would put it up on the main forum. Sorry for double posting but I've been trying to get this for a few weeks now and its driving me round the bend!

Hi Everyone,

Trying to get into sound design. Failing miserably at the moment but persevering! Could anyone help me design the heavily distorted bass sound of Boys Noize/Teenage Bad Girl? A good example of what I'm looking for is at the start of 'Let's Buy Happiness'. Please forgive a poor beginner if this is a little basic. I have tried but my efforts fall far short of the mark!

Any guidance would be gratefully received! :)

You could try using a saw basline, with a high resonance and a fairly low cutoff for the acidness ,and spice it up with a distortion effect, like warbler ,for example(which is not only good for distortion),if you use it right.

Thanks - this helped me to start again. As with all sound design I've tried, I was over complicating the basics. I don't have Warbler, but instead ran the basic sound generated in Sylenth (a saw and square wave with low cutoff/high res) through several of Ableton's effects (Redux, Saturator, Erosion, Compression). I'm now much closer to the sound than I was before, but its still not perfect. The original has a kind of wah sound hissing over the top of the distorted and sub bass sounds that I just can't seem to nail. I've posted a link below - the sound is the one right at the start of the tune:
