I often wish I could copy/paste complete sections of patches ( like a complete column) from one patch to another. Would save me loads of time...

Just save an oscillator as "..." (the default name), then immediately load it into another. A matter of seconds.
I know Howard :) But I was not thinking about the Osc's only, I thought any module. The Grid could be a nice place to do this.

I'll not hold out any hope on this idea - just putting it out there:

Could Zebra's Osc Detune amount be extended, as it were, so that it would be possible to dial up intervals - thirds, fifths etc?

I had thought of this all on my own (honest) a while back, but kept it to myself, or forgot about it, or something. Then, watching one of the SynthSquad vids (Strobe?), I notice that they've implemented something along these lines.

Would it perhaps be unethical to borrow an idea like this - even though it is, arguably, a fairly obvious evolution?

Ok, maybe I don't really understand what you're saying but the detune knob is in cents and the tune knob is in semitones. So if you want a fifth interval just dial 7 on the tune knob in the second osc.

I'm talking about using an extended "Detune" (not "Tune") within a single oscillator - set to "Dual" - to give intervals.

Or, put it another way, if you set Osc to Dual and change the Detune amount you effectively hear two oscillators being detuned against one another. Detune only gives less than a semitone of relative detuning. I'm talking about expanding the detune amount to allow for intervals like thirds and fifths etc.

I get what you mean. I've first seen this implemented in iNetSynth. However, it's not viable for Zebra's oscillators as these are based on wavetables that are periodically updated for bandlimiting etc. It's easy to do with basic waveforms (saw/square/tri) or static tables, but in case of Zebra it's just overkill. You can still use all 4 oscillators though, and I'm working on faster was to copy settings from one osc to the other.

Okay - I'm sure that's right. And, of course, using two Osc's to achieve the same end is easy enough. The only advantage with the idea would be neatness really.

Hi Urs

I have a feature suggestion- I dont know if this has already been suggested or if Zebra already has this and I am yet to discover it , but I was playing around with Zebra yesterday and I think an 'undo' button would be extremely useful.

I am forever coming up with a sound I like, then seeing if I can tweak it further and I end up losing the sound. When I try to back-track it never sounds the same!

I guess I should get into the habit of saving my work as I go along but I cant help but feel that an 'undo' feature would come in very handy.

Anyhow, just thought I would share that with you!!

I'm very much looking forward to playing with Zebra 2.5.

I know what you mean Bird...I have found myself going a couple tweaks beyond a cool new patch. I try to save now as I go. I end up with several versions of a patch and keep what I like when I go back later with fresh ears.

I suggested it a while back :). I'm probably jumping to conclusions here, but there's some 'undo/redo' type arrows in the new Zebra 2.5 UI (to the right of the patchname display). Anyway, I hope that's what they are! :) I'd certainly find it useful and preferable to manually saving each and every patch tweak.

Yes, Zebra 2.5 has unlimited undo/redo until you load the next patch.

Loading a patch flushes the undo history, otherwise stepping through patches could become a real memory eater :hihi: Closing and re-opening the gui flushes the history too.

It currently only covers actions based on mouse dragging though (knobs, menus). I have yet to add actions based on MouseWheel. Also, host automation will not be covered by undo at all...

Cheers,

;) Urs
