This is sad. I'm not sure how to get around this until Paypal gives a modicum of rights to sellers. Why they took them all away is a mystery to me.

A similar thing happened to me when selling me and my wife's iPhones. First I got a "Got the phones and everything's great" email from the buyer, and an hour later a paypal dispute saying that "they were not as described due to scratches and non removable stickers."

The scratches were not visible to the camera so I did write about them and the stickers easily come off with a tiny effort (they're egrip stickers)

Anyway, the good news is that after a handful of emails and a few weeks paypal awarded me back my money. But I see where this is going. I don't think I'd ever use paypal as a seller again. What would the point be? Soon all decent sellers will abandon it. Newsflash: the customer is not always right. They're very wrong a surprising percentage of the time.

Good luck.

hi mate thanks for that but all i have is the emails for proof still with the files attached and the exact date they were sent..
if it happens once it will happen again and paypal always favour the buyer..
anyway i'd like to thank everyone for the past support and it's back to making music for me.all soundbanks and links have been taken down from my site.

Yeah it's a bit of a sickener after all the hard work but it's just not worth it in the end unless i sold my sounds through someplace else. Now i know how developers must feel when their software gets cracked on the net.If one person does it then that's enough for me.. jeez im glad it wasn't a £1000 synth i was selling as i would have sent the synth and the buyer could dispute and get their money back and me with no synth...

thanks cain

Hi Rob

Sorry to hear about this mate, im really surprised that paypal would do this and give them there money back just on a say so, surely there is a process to go through before they refund them, normally if there is a problem they would email you direct with the query, it really is a sickner that one individual spoils this for other people, if your reading this yeah you the numpty whos put the claim in sort yourself out man what are you playing at this is rob's livelihood surely if you had a dispute you should have contacted rob direct! anyway rob i always believe in what goes around comes around!

Take care buddy!

Cheers Martin

Rob, couldn't you require buyers to send money as a gift? I don't think you can dispute a gift.

Every time I purchase over the net and the option comes up for paypal or mastercard, I always take the later. Paypal seems nothing but trouble.

It's very sad that someone throws a spanner in the works.
I enjoy your sounds as well Rob and have seen you grow as a businessman and sound designer over the last couple of years.

Best wishes for any future plans.

Cheers

Wow that blows.
Maybe you could try "Share It"?

Truth is credit cards can also be disputed.
The finacial handling companies should have a different policy on software, than other items. Like once you open a box it can't be returned policy.

Maybe you could get payments mailed by check only? No middle man then.

That's insane!! Sucks to hear it Rob.

Hello, Rob

Sorry to hear about the troubles with the business aspect of selling sound designs. Whish I could tell you to cheer up, that none the less doesn't matter. Mate, please don't let people that take advantage have any "real" wait, it most be frustrating, the time and passion involved in your work.

Peace, Happy Frog

That is very bad news Rob! I hope you can get over it and be able to sell your sounds again, the bank for Predator is awesome.

I hope you can get paypal to understand that this is not fair as far as software sell is involve. If you can't do anything, make sure his name is publish so we can all see who did that!

These people should be blacklist, that's for sure.

paypay does not offer buyer protection for intangible goods. (digital downloads) call or email paypal and tell them the item was "intangible goods" and u will win the dispute

Post

good morning,

iv'e been checking over the details of the dispute and there is no reason stated.
this buyer has not even emailed me before opening the dispute stating any reason for doing so.
i emailed the buyer last night and told him that i still have the emails/files/dates and times they were sent on my data base but have had no reply whatsoever.

all paypal sent me was a dispute number in an email saying i had recieved unauthorized funds on 24th july and 8th august from this one buyer but there is usually a reason given and there was none.

i checked the links on my website stats and details of the user.i only have his real name and address through the paypal transaction but it also says that he was linked to my webstore via KVR audio view topic and so on,unfortunatley i do not know what his username is or whether he's a registered member here at all so it's his word against my proof and my word.

what's funny is that he's the only one iv'e ever had a problem with in regards to sounds and both on different days and nearly 2 weeks apart so what he has done was to buy one set of sounds then get all the upgrades at special prices and then weeks later launch a dispute and get his cash back...very clever indeed as i never thought of that one.

i mean any decent bloke would email the seller before doing this as im always on hand to answer questions either here or on my home email but this has not happened.

anyway the guy was from germany that's all i can say at the minute until the matter is sorted out.
my message to this guy is why did you not just email me as i would have been able to help.

i then started to think that the files had been sent to his junk mail but then i thought well why would he wait 2 weeks after ordering one soundset then when i released the other sounds he bought those aswell then 3 weeks on launch a dispute?
i can't understand, maybe he didn't like the sounds i don't know but that's the reaon i put mp3 audio demos up so people can decide whether to buy or not and i clearly state that.

anyway i don't feel like doing this anymore at this time an am going to concentrate on my own productions so i'll be contacting all the developers i have been given synths from in order to delete them from my accounts.
i was really enjoying my job and it is a hard job designing sounds and im sorry to let you all down here but i'll have to do other things for the time being anyway.

note:

i will of course still fulfill my word to the guys iv'e promised free preset banks for here at KVR

many thanks to all here and all who have bought my sounds and all those who have not. :)

all the best

Rob

That is truly a crying shame. I only have your Predator soundset, but if all the others are of the same quality, a lot of people will miss out due to one f***ing idiot. :(
