Hi Rob,

Welcome to the wonderful downside of online business.
At least your not dealing with a stolen credit card and public email address in which case you'd be SOL.

PayPal may have its downside, but from a sellers viewpoint it has advantages over the rest regardless of the complaints you hear. In the case of dispute the first thing PayPal does is freeze the money - you don't have it but neither does the purchaser. When the dispute is resolved one of you will get the money.

Things aren't settled until the dispute clears, so you still might get your money.
Keep the lines of communication open with the buyer (even if he/she does not respond) and document everything. The fact that you have tried to communicate with the buyer and they have not responded in a meaningful way carries some weight. If you give up and walk away (don't actively dispute it) the jerk wins.

One of my clients is going through a similar dispute and it looks like PayPal is going to deny the chargeback.

The buyer emailed me and said paypal stopped him from using his account and took the money from my account due to a dispute???

If the buyer does not have the funds or whatever then why do paypal take it back from me?
I sent all the files in good faith and the user has them as i have proof.
I wouldn't mind but this dispute if true should have been between the buyer and paypal and not me.

I think you may be getting me confused with someone else there.

PayPal are actually very responsive to requests in my experience. I think it's worth knowing the FACTS. Speculation is a waste of time. Just ask them.

Dude you really shouldn't be put off selling your soundsets online just because of one little c@nt.

Perhaps a different business model is in order, one where there's an option to make a donation in the same way that IIEQ sells their stuff? Or not use paypal at all? I dunno.

You're VERY good at this and will make a decent living out of it so don't worry about some little f*ckwit who messes you about. There are plenty of other people out there who look forward to and enjoy your sounds, and i'm one of them!

i can't really say if the guy is genuine or not as i didn't get a reason for the dispute

maybe he is genuine and truly has a fault with paypal regarding his own account but that really has nothing to do with me if that's the case here.
he may be genuine i don't know..all i know is that he is a kvr member which i would not name anyways incase he has a valid reason.

as for the soundsets geoff, selling them through my website just opens the door for stuff like this to happen so unfortunatly i'll have to find other ways of making a living other than this unless i sell my sounds through pm's here at kvr so i know exactly who is who..the process would take longer but it would be safer.

I didn't read every post in here, so sorry if someone mentioned this idea already:

I was thinking maybe you could distribute/sell your soundsets through some other company (through their website) so the money wouldn't be directly to you, and let that other "company" deal with any problems that might come up with any orders that they get.

Something like AudioMidi-dot-com, not sure how all that would work, but maybe it might be possible.

They would take a cut from the $$, but you could keep making and selling soundsets at least.

i don't mind taking a cut but i think i'll just leave it for now mate until things are sorted out

any banks i sell now will have to be via here at kvr and producerloops.
