are you feeling adventurous people? then vote for a chimera OSC in the near future!! i think it would be highly interesting to choose a more unusual and challenging noise maker for an OSC...

Post

And here's my third and last one:
(Just had to do it cause I missed out on 2 OSC's)

18 x Felix

Fx :

1 x Classic Delay
2 x Classic Flanger
1 x Classic Delay
1 x Classic Chorus
2 x Tone2BifilterGUI
1 x Classic Compressor
1 X George Young W1 Limiter
5 x NonameEQ
1 x TL3-3127-LEA
1 x TLs SaturatedDriver
1 x VoxengoBoogex
1 x BassChorusV23
1 x OhmBoys Frohmage
2 x Reacomp
1 x Endorphine
1 x MDA Detune

Master Fx :

1 x CLAS
1 x JBSmash Pro Demo
1 x TLs Maximizer

Some track-EQ's, no automation.

All this, and I still couldn't get what I wanted, but time's up. (This thing just won't sit right).

Hope YOU enjoy it, and thanks for listening.

Nice to see (and hear) so many entries, high quality and variation.
It's going to be hard to pick a winner.
Well done guys !

 ...i have to say... I thougt that i read somewhere ONLY tu use one VST + EVENTUALLY some free things. A LITTLE bit of a reverb freebie and a LITTLE bit of an Delay freebie BUT. So i have done my track like that.

I have to note that i havend heard much of the uploaded tracks, but since every Body is using like 1000 XYZ effects on its track for tweaking the sound like they want to haven them sound "good" in every possible direction... is it still the Sound of that synth??? :(

Its just... grrrrr.

But however its not my thing... you have to decide.

PS. Galileo is awesome ... but it crashes somewhat like every 5 minutes ....
...and i cant export a single audiofile it just continues to say export 0%

EDIT: IT worked, i just had to export every Audio-Track on its own...

I think you are right to some extend, but I also think that sounddesign is part of the challenge too. Hence the FX.

Just for fun I rendered out an NO-FX, No EQ version of my third song and I have to say :

It (still) sounds like CRAP !

Listen for yourself : http://www.box.net/shared/fu0r8blply and have a laugh.

I must say I kind of agree with this... I mean, the point is to use just one synth and see what you can get out of it, not just any sound at all and three gazillion effects that could turn any sound into any other sound altogether :?
Otherwise there's no challenge... (now, don't you guys get pissed, OK?)

Not Pissed :)

What FX should not be used then ?

EQ's ?
Compressors ?
Chorus/phazers ?
Delay/Reverb ?
Limiters/Maximizers ?

I was just stating my opinion, I have no right to make the rules (besides, it's all done just for fun, so anybody can use whatever they want)

The ones you listed are OK, from my point of view. maybe a good definition would be "anything you can use on a guitar or a violin or any acoustic instruments to improve its sound without turning it into an electronic instrument". For example, I wouldn't allow sampling/looping as that becomes a synthesis method in itself that makes the original sound absolutely secondary in terms of importance (listen to what Tattiemannie made with the Hardwood Clave vst and sampling - if that doesn't drive my point right home, nothing will).
But again, we're doing this just for fun, sooooo...........

Well I just turned all off and didn't try to correct the levels, so the bass is gone and the lead it waaaay to loud , I didn't listen... just rendered, and knowing the "effected" one it made me laugh, when I heard it.

For me part of the fun with this OCS's is the soundshaping, mixing and EQing.
I have a sound in my mind and I want to make it all with ONE synth.
And YES ! it is FUN !

I didn't partake in the sampleplayer OSC because that is not the way I like to work, neither are the FSU-kind of effects and glitchy kind of stuff.
It just isn't my thing... but I love listening to it, and wonder how they do it !

(Making) music is just FUN ! :)

:3 I like it too. But i won't argue on the fist version ^.- because i by myselfe doing the same somethimes. At leas there are no rules, its all about the fun Thing!

Pre-post for the upcomming Galileo OSC!
The Track is called: "Wandering-The-City-At-Night"
Entirely made of Galileo (40 Instances?) at leas 40 sounds couse i had to export every single track and recombine them to get galileo working!
But now it soundsvery well....

Used only light and havy reverb but you will se. No other effect.
Hope you like it ^.-

I follow this competition because it doesn't seem like a contest. The barrier to entry is low (you can do it with 100% free stuff and it doesn't reward someone who has a million dollars worth of studio gear in room with a half million dollars of treatment). The challenge is always interesting (I do enjoy minimalist expression). I'm don't think I'm good enough to compete in contests where the stakes are high, and I certainly don't have the kind of time it would take to do some of the things I envision. But it's different here.

To be honest, I didn't even understand there were prizes or whatever until today.

If I perceived OSC as some kind of serious contest with really high stakes, I would have been intimidated away from participating, and probably wouldn't even have followed the thread or listened to the music.

Now for my entry, I did do some filtering using an auto-wah type of setting for a gate effect and something else to tighten the envelope to get a little more of a percussion sound, I probably used a looper and whatever other FX live on my master fader (all freebies, of course). I really thought the essence of the OSC was to use a (Freebie) synth and take that minimal element and make something from nothing using only other Free stuff. I love these parameters.

Great tone poem.

But what is Galileo? (There's no KVR page? What kind of synth doesn't have a KVR page???)

His Oatmeal OSC entry is so nice, I sometimes laugh with joy when its number on the mp3 player is called, can't stay in a foul mood when I hear 'Forced Return.mp3' :hihi:
