Does anyone else think that Presonus with the new "Studio One" and their various interfaces, may have had a focusing effect on Mackie?

I found the Studio One demo not very intuitive and uninstalled it after 10 minutes....

Not too much. Presonus developed Studio One from scratch with a specific aim. That is, mainly value-added audio interfaces. I don't think they're expecting to sell a ton of standalone Studio Ones (what's the plural of One?). Rather, they hope to use it to drive sales of hardware.

Mackie bought Tracktion from a third party and didn't seem to know what to do with it. It's sort of like giving someone a glove and telling him to put it on. This is what we ended up with:

If anything should have a focusing effect on Mackie it's this forum.

No matter what their plans are, I'm quite sure it too little too late.
And the fact that T3 has been out for what seems like forever and it's still not usable on the Mac is pretty pathetic. I just can't rely on them as a company.

Also, Logic is getting better and better. It has gone from being a DAW that I hated to one of my favourites. Even though I miss the simplistic approach of Tracktion, Logic Studio 9 comes with so many great features and plugins that Tracktion looks very dated. I cannot imagine how they would be able to compete with a package like that.

Features, plugins... I prefer workflow.
Plugins I can get externally - no issues.
Features - well, some people need particular features.
I need something that I don't have to think about when I'm working with it, and which doesn't shove a whole lot of extraneous options in my face.
Anything random I can't do through a host I can always do externally.
But, personally, Simpler the better - occams razor and all that.

To me, Logic is very grey, needs a large monitor to get (for me) decent visual separation and doesn't seem to snap to bars in a predictable way. The key strokes are hard to remember, and in general seems to need more clicks than I would like, soloing for example. This is not a "I hate Logic" strand, there are many good things about it, I just don't need/use them. Less is more in my book..

You know, I posted a similar thread here months ago because I was told much the same thing from a Mackie support tech via email. I followed up with him trying to get more specifics, and never got a reply.

Perhaps you could contact this product manager who told you this, again, and impress on him the fact that the entire Tracktion community has basically been abandoned, and it would behoove them to give us all at least a ROUGH ESTIMATE of when we might see something. Like, this century? Or next?

Nope, they bought the old Kristal audio engine and it's developers at Kreative.org to create Studio One. Kristal used to be a free/donationware project.
