Tracktion is alive

and doesn't seem to snap to bars in a predictable way.

I should have said the PLAYLINE doesn't snap to bars in a predictable way.

This goes to show the breadth and difference of use in Logic. I record mainly live, "in the room" bands and I need the the PLAYLINE to snap to the bar at the point of recording (overdubs) so that if any regions get accidently get moved it's a quick task to fix them.

Of course I understand the snap options and the bar divisions on the transport bar, but when I have an entire song in the window, it would be great for me, to be able to have the Tracktion trick of using to arrow keys to "step" though a project. My overdubs would always start on the bar.

I think this bodes less than well for Tracktion, if it's more important for Mackie to cozy up to Digidesign users than to update a far better software DAW. Swipe comp would be nice, but if they'd just fix a few glaring bugs...sigh.

Studio One is $99 for folks who bought PreSonus gear before the first of this year. Seems a fair price.

I'll be happy if I can knock out songs as fast with it as with T1 and T2.

I would have happily ponied up $99 for a reliably functioning T3.

I really hate this situation. Tracktion still remains King of workflow for me, but the bugs are horrible when they appear. I can't find any thing close to Tracktion in terms of workflow...part of me feels that I'd rather use a crippled Tracktion than something else inferior.
I have only opened up Studio One a few times and the workflow is ok, but not as streamlined as Tracktion's by a decent stretch.

I found a link to these excerpts in my email today, I suppose having LoudT mixers and drivers legally connected to the motherload of DAWs answers a lot of Tracktioneer questions. But, as I don't like Chinese, Thai or Indian every day for supper, having a variety of tools to do the main job will remain useful. I shall transfer my licenses to sata drives soonest:

We get a lot of odd items in the mail at our offices here, but the other day we were intrigued by the arrival of a rather strange parcel....
...In true Mackoid tradition, the DVD had a short video clip of a Mackie employee with an altered voice and wearing a stocking over his face to conceal his identity. The mystery spokesperson explains a few people were chosen to receive this "top-secret" parcel and then goes to play part of a Pro Tools session through the 820i. More mysterious perhaps was the other file on the DVD—an installer for the Mackie Universal Driver Version 1 that would let Mackie products act as an audio interface/front end for Pro Tools M-Powered software. If so, it's a lot of impact for a relatively few lines of code.

Assuming this isn't simply a case of reverse-engineering on Mackie's part, this development is significant for several reasons....

That $99 offer is for Studio One Artist which doesn't support VST or Rewire. If you want to load a 3rd party effect or instrument you'd need to pay an additional $199 to upgrade to the full version.

Good news about Mackie at least talking about Tracktion though.

I have to admit - I missed the fact that the Artist version doesn't support VST. It just went from a possible purchase to 'no way' for me.

If Mackie is committed to continuing Tracktion, why haven't there been any updates/bugfixes in God-knows-when?! I'd like to return to Tracktion; it's still on my computer, but I'm running Reaper for efficiency's sake.

Mackie just sent me an email about their Onyx-i mixers.
It says the following:

"Qualified by Mackie for use will all major DAWs, including:
Pro Tools® M-Powered 8™
Logic ®
SONAR™
Cubase®
Ableton® Live"

No mention of their own major DAW?

That should about tell the story....

I still use T3 for all of my recording.....
Hope I can keep this hardware package running for a long time.

lol. well, the t3 release seemed to be about the hobbyist. maybe mackie thought it would compete with magix music maker so they thew in a bunch o loops. i can't think of anything i can't do in tracktion. i can do it quickly and intuitively. i think the problem is t doesn't seem pro. can't be caught without the pro or you're not a "producer". i think t is for "artists". some artist/programmer is bound to fill the void should online authorization stop working for my nfr copies of t

No. The big problem is that after all this time and silence, there is no bugfix update for some of the core bugs that affect so many people so dramatically that it is stupid to even try to use it.
For example...Tracktion doesn't really like quad cores much, even though there's an option to use all 4. But then again, on other systems it works fine (or so I hear....could be a myth), so go figure.
