My first single? I still havnt bought it.

I allways bought albums. If there was a song I liked I bought the whole album instead of a single. I never liked the idea bying something with only two songs. Too little.My sister and brother bought singles but I had never the same taste as them. And anyway first album were from a band that had didnt exist anymore when I bought them. And 80% of the albums, and eventually CDs were band that never were any top20.

i've a feeling it was j geils band 'centrefold'... didn't have a record player when i was really young, only had complete cassette albums before that.

Stopped playing side A soon after I bought it, because I bought Let It Be as my first album. However, my little brother became obsessed with Side B. We heard You Know My Name at least four or five times a week for over three YEARS on his portable record player. To this day, I have every nuance of that track in my head.

This is ONE of my first as well, and I absolutely wore the grooves off on the B-side. I was so delighted many years later to get the "rarities" LP that had this on there, since I had long since lost the single.

Some thing by Jefferson Airplane I found, "You and Me and Pooneil" or some title... second hand for like 5 cents at some weird discount store run by Indians near Central Ave. I was like 12. It featured 'feedback' in the intro and sounded mysterious.

amazing how much they play that Dave Edmunds tune now (on the oldies channel)...and my kids heard Apeman for the first time the other day, they loved it!

reminds me: i gotta get that Rockpile record some day...

All right, I admit my age. The first single I bought was in 1902 when Adelina, the Yale Boola Girl ("Boola Boola," etc.) was the latest rage. The Edison Male Quartet's recorded version had all the flivs and toodles in a fresh swivet, and the rest is history.

If only I had waited I could've saved the price of an Edison Moulded Record.

I believe two of my early singles were "Freeze Frame" and "My Sharona" - the latter was from a couple/few years before so it may have been acquired through the "Home Shopping Club" which means pilfered from a sibling. I remember listening to these the most.

which for whatever reason, inspired my recording and electronica madness, whilst Chubby got me interested in blues and slightly later, jazz...

"May You Never" by John Martyn.

There was actually a stack of records that were my first records other than children's stuff. There was also "Raindrops" by Dee Thomas.

When I started buying my own records I was all over the map, but I think the first album I bought with my own money was Yes Fragile.
