Well, I guess it's a good sign that people jump on the looks rather than the sound :hihi:

No worries though. The current version is deliberately high-contrast. It's much better for visually impaired people than I guess any of the other skins.

I like the Dark Horse too, but it's also got its weaknesses.

If I get this right, all that there is to be criticised is the "whiteness" of the modules, right? I suppose everyone is happy with the bottom pane and the layout in general. So how about a variation that "inverts" the module backgrounds and maybe gives them a tad of colour coding. That should do, no?

Post

I think the sound with 2.5 is brilliant. I can finally get a nice, crusty Raymond Scott synthesizer sound that I've been aiming for. The new version feels more like a physical instrument with transistors than any soft synth out there.

So that's probably why no one jumps on the sound.

I like the idea of the inverted module backgrounds, although I don't mind the look of the new version.

I agree that we can't really complain about the sound. 2.5 will be skinnable though, right?

Of course it is.

I'd however love to provide an "easy-on-the-eyes" skin myself. As I said somewhere else, the current skin is great for its clarity, making it good for screenshots, videos etc. but I guess for long term users it'd be easier to have skin with less contrast (which basically only means an exchange of the silver parts and an amber variation of the green knobs/texts IMHO).

Hi Urs,
This new 2.5 release is very good, I do not doubt that will be a great sounds tools
Many thanks

I really like the new skin personally. Slightly darker would be good though probably. And I wouldn't mind slightly different color for different types of modules.

The cut pixels from the right side of the gui is still present though (I'm on VST on mac leopard, Ableton Live 8 ). It's actually rather annoying to have to change the size and resize whenever I open it (I open it a lot!). I'm sure it'll be fixed soon though.

In addition to the missing pixels from the GUI, when there is a folder with a long title, it overlaps the module section and stays there when you scroll down in the presets folders. It's not that big of a deal, but it's not supposed to do that and I figured I'd report it.
GENERATION 30: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.

Strange ....I can t get the AU of 2.5.b6 validated in Logic 9 /OS 10.5.8.
Vst works fine in Live 7. Love the new GUI.

Anyone experienced validating issues in Logic 9 too?

Call me old fashioned but I still prefer the old default Zebra skin! It's what I like and it's what I'm used to.

Just been playing around with Zebra 2.5 and I honestly think this is the best sounding soft synth I have heard.

It always sounded good but in this version the filters and the new 'crisp' settings on the oscillators give the sound some edge and a bit of grit.

And the undo function!! Superb.

Thank you Mr Heckmann, your hard work has made a brilliant synth even better!

By the way, running the last Beta version on Ableton Live 5.2.2 and seems to work fine. So far so good!

I like the new skin too, but I did like the different colors for modules in Unempty too. Makes it easier at a glance to see what's in you rack. That would be my only change to the new skin.

Thnx for the fix Urs.
works fine now here in Logic 9 10.5.8

GUI is so much better now!
Zebra is almost a serious competitor to my Andromeda now!
