I'm having trouble loading erratic_CM into MU.LAB (and all of my other programs). There's a thread over at MusicRadar with details, and I'm not the only person having difficulty, but my problems escalated from "no audio output" to "can't load the thing at all", so I'm hoping to apply some collective wisdom.
After initially having problems that appeared as though they might be related to the presence of MAC OS-specific files into the folder tree, I did the following:
* Deleted all erratic_CM-related files and subfolders from my plugins folder.
* Deleted the erratic_CM entry from MU.LAB's plugins database (an XML file)
* Copied the erratic_CM ZIP file to my hard drive
* Used 7-Zip to extract the erratic_CM.ZIP content (minus the __MACOSX folder that shows up at the top level) to a temporary folder
* Deleted any .DS_Store files I found in the temporary folder & subfolders
* Copied the remaining files to my plugins folder
In both MU.LAB Free and Samplitude 9SE, I forced a rescan. MU.LAB initially reported that erratic_CM seems to be causing problems and would be skipped and I had to scan twice, but that may be due to my having brute-force deleted the data from the XML file. In both programs, when I tried to load erratic_CM into a session, I again got a sequence of error dialog boxes, the first of which read
Can't load module. 'dehaupt DH_ModuleKey 1.0.2+'
If I click the OK button, I get the same error with a different file name. If I click enough times, some of the file names (function names?) repeat, although I lost patience before I actually confirmed that the whole list started repeating. For variety's sake, I then tried to load Live Lite 6.0.5, and got the same error messages when the program (apparently) scanned the VST folder on start-up. Maybe this is somehow a SynthEdit problem, but I'm not sure if I've got any other plug-ins made with SE to try and double-check. I tried loading several other random plug-ins of various sorts and nothing else seems to be amiss.
I do have my plug-ins arranged into subfolders, so things are arranged:
C:\Program Files\Tracktion\plugins\... where "plugins" the root folder for VST / VSTi items, but most of them in appear in subfolders (drums, synths, etc.), so I initially put the erratic_CM DLL file into C:\Program Files\Tracktion\plugins\drums -- I tried moving the whole bit up to the "plugins" folder, but the results didn't change.
For reference, the system is a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 with 2GB RAM, running WinXP SP3.

Problem solved: the relevant folder was read-only and erratic_CM writes out some files on first use. Moving the whole VST plug ins tree to the Shared Documents space in XP fixed it.
