Yeah, the usual sh!t pic, ...in it's defense, it's not quite that ugly in the flesh!
Not a lot to explain really, its a bank of 12 sample players assigned to the keys 'Z,S,X,D,C,V,G,B,H,N,J and M' on your computer keyboard .... although it will respond to the equivalent keys on a piano keyboard.
The plug comes loaded with 12 x 16 bit samples rendered from sfxr during a recent One Synth Challenge, but you can load your own 16 bit mono or stereo samples.
This is the basic version, so each key/sample has only Volume and continuous pitch ( +/- 2 octaves ) controls, and routing via a choice of 2 LFOs, and output via a choice of 3 Filters, an ADSR, or direct.
I'm sure everone has samplers galore, so why use QwertySam?
*The obvious use for such a plug is a custom drum machine .... load in twelve drum samples, and there you have it! ... A kit controllable from the piano roll ... with a few quirks!
*Preset 3 will demonstrate a more subtle ( or wacky ) possibility ... a broken, or slightly eccentric instrument where the same sample is loaded to each slot, but certain notes have a bit of err, ... a life of their own??
*With a bit of imagination, this plug could be a nice way of doing things economically. If you have no plans to change the pitch of your drums, and use only a few bass notes on a track, then here you can have drums, bass, and probably a few more sounds all tweakable and automatable in one panel.
*Qwertysam 1 is extremely easy on CPU, and only your chosen samples will change that.
* ... the best reason ... it's great fun! Load one instance, and from one piano roll, or one set of keys, you can quickly create unique, insane loops ... and then you can bend them in daft ways!
Not enough?? ... well, a more developed version is almost complete ... ( additional S/H mod options, extra EQ and delay in line with the ADSR route, range and scaling options for tuning, a Les Dawson piano preset, global tuning, half decent skin, and possibly more ...)
Another version will be created with those same additional features, but will be active across the 'Q' to ']' keys .... thats half an octave more!
...but you cant have either unless you enter a One Synth Competition!
Anyway, if you want to give QwertySam1 a try, simply click on one of the links below in my sig, go to the 'Vst synths' folder, and use your alphabet!
Tested in FL8 and Tunafish .... info welcome re. performance in other hosts.
Have fun!
