Killer Organ setup

I have been playing with VB3 and B4II for some time now and I am leaning more to using VB3 because it seems to have more balls than B4II for my taste. That Jazz Master patch is just killer. Don't get me wrong, I still love B4II.

Sometimes I switch back and forth because I can't make up my mind. The other day I put both of them on channels 5, 6, and 7 (bass, lower and upper) and played them together, then I added Mr Donald to each mixer channel and tweaked Mr Donald's Leslie parameters to make their Leslie effects slightly out of phase with each other. I also tweaked the VB3 Belt Parameter to change the belt slip. After some fun tweaking I was able to produce a "Wall of Leslies" sound. Wow, I was blown away with the warmth and that spatial multiple 147 sound winding up and down!!! Give it a try and post your opinion or other techniques for creating that special sound that we are all trying to achieve without carrying around 4 147s with us.

Hey Phil,

Out of curiosity, do you use a pedal board with your Receptor? I am thinking about building a MIDI AGO standard pedal board and was curious if you had something similar?

I am going to be playing pipe organ samples through my Receptor via Kontakt 3 and thought it would be fun to dust off the old Bach and hymns and whatnot...

If I am successful I might even build a mock pipe organ (with Receptor and some hidden speakers) in the foyer of my house for practice purposes!

PhilMuller: I think this VB3 setup sounds very interesting. I have been using B4-II, but I will give VB3/Mr McDonald a try today. Thanks for the suggestion. Do you find MrMcdonald to be better than the effects from B4?

Yeah, VB3 sounds really nice! I use it out of the box (without other effects) and sounds fine for me. And especially for the money. I have the leslie speed controlled by the sustain pedal, this works perfect for me on stage. The only downside of it is the long switching time (multiple seconds on a rev B!) in a snapshot. I still wait for the 1.12 update because that is very likely to fix this issue.

Previously I used a Hammond XM1 with XM1c drawbar controller and a Korg B4 leslie emulator. For live this worked quite ok (good control possibility), but VB3 sounds much more like a real B3...

I just installed VB3 on my Receptor 1 Rev. C, OS 1.7xx. I've had it crash on me multiple times when trying to assign controllers to parameters using MIDI Learn. My main concern, however, assuming I can fix the crashing, is how to save and load multiple controller maps the way NI B4 II allows. I am aware of the DAT file, but fear to tread there on a Receptor. I am a Mac user and all that DLL stuff scares me;)

Has anyone tried copying VB3's DAT file to another location, changing the controller mapping, then reloading it to restore the previous mapping? More importantly, is there anyone out there brave enough to try such a thing? I'm officially chicken, because I really don't know what I'm doing. Does this sound like a good or bad idea? I tried contacting Guido & am waiting for his response. Perhaps a future version will make this easy like B4. I MUCH prefer VB3 sonically, BTW.

I have edited the DAT file with regards to drawbar settings for the "key" presets without problem - as per the suggestion in the owners manual. I did not think to look there for controller assignments in the DAT file - maybe this weekend? I agree with others on their preference for VB3 sonically - it's kickin'.

I had the crashing while trying to assign controllers thing also but found that if deleted the current controller first before doing the midi learn I got it to work

I was wondering if anybody has gotten VB3 1.2.2 working on the Receptor yet? i tried installing the 2 ll files that came with the download and even had Farhan help me and we couldn't get them to install...Guido said that it does work on Receptor as an unsupported plug-inbut he didn;t know exactly how to install it...Farhan seemed to think I needed a dat file but there isn't one included in the 1.2.2 download...love the VB3 though much warmer fatter sounding than B42 ( ihave both) and the distortion is killer

David - Thanks for the tip on assigning controllers, I'll try that.

On the other item - I think that it's the dll file that needs to be replaced (not DAT file). I did try this, simply removed the 1.2.1 dll file (not the fx file) and copied the 1.2.2 file to the appropriate location. (Before going on I must say that when I asked Muse Tech Help about this they emphatically told me that they DO NOT SUPPORT version 1.2.2 yet - so anything done is at your own risk.) Anyway, VB3 1.2.2 did instantiate but kept crashing my Receptor so I removed it and reinstalled the Plugorama version. I later realized that I had mistyped my name in the reregistration of 1.2.2 - I've been wondering if that was the problem I had at that time, and have been thinking about trying again. I found the VB3 dll folder in the Windows download version on the VB3 site.

I'm not suggesting you try, but if you do and it works, please post. And be sure to write down your registration info (name and serial number) prior to trying anything - and reenter it correctly . If I try again and get it working I'll do the same. Thanks -

Update: (On my Receptor 2 Pro 1.8) I replaced both 1.2.1 dll files (VB3 and VB3 FX) and deleted the 1.2.1 license file. I then replaced the dll files with 1.2.2. I simply placed the new files in the old folder - not in unsupported plugins or the installer folders). VB3 instantiated properly and I entered my name and key code to register the product - okay so far. Unfortunately though, it has caused several (and unpredictable) Receptor crashes - sometimes when going to edit mode and more often when calling up a new Receptor patch (particularly a Multi). It also occasionally maxes the Receptor CPU when being called up in a Receptor Multi. I can load another (non-VB3) Multi and go back to VB3 and it can be fine the next time. When it loads properly it functions just fine. So it seems very close to working properly, but I got frustrated trying to deal with it so I ultimaely uninstalled 1.2.2 and reinstalled 1.2.1. If anyone has had better luck, perhaps you'd be kind enough to post - thanks.

I hope Muse finds some time to update and officially support 1.2.2. The differences are subtle but would be worth the effort in my opinion.
