It's a delightful, happy, modern sounding tune...great!

You got great sounding results without much FX processing.

Thanks for sharing!

Quick question: What screen resolution and type of monitor did you take the screen shot on? You seem to fit a lot of details on the screen.

Thanks. :)

I made a screenshot of the setup to give you an idea of how this arrangement was made:

and the track is here:

Have fun listening :)

Hi Dave

I'm on a 24" 1920x1200, and as you can see i yanked the mixer sliders a good bit down to allow for EQ in the highs. Before the masterbus FX's it would peak around +4 db. I decided to go for strictly EQ highs instead of using exciter. The only lows i added was the one on the masterbus. Thats why its realtive clean sounding. :) So in all most things have been given quite a lift around 5 to 10 Khz.

I've been holding back on the new 2.5 version but finally gave it a try yeasterday. Since most talk is about XMF i forced my self to only use 1 OSC and 1 XMF pr. preset. In the end i ended up with dubbing kick, snare and hihat with sampled drums.

So this is 15 x 1 osc 1 xmf preset doing weirdos and corny music.

Thanks for this. Like those rock mod warped sounds going on there.
It's been real hard learning production, for me. All the music you do, makes it sound so easy, but it's not.

If you hit a brickwall in production it might help with some analyze of the music genre your trying to create. This is the tough part and utterly boring work but it really pays of in the end. My work method is very old skool ;) where most people these days put down a GROOVE of somekind and then put on instruments i do the oposite, i put down the music first and then think about drums and rhythmic stuff. This way the music takes priority and the beat gets secondary, which is exactly what i want. :)

When i create sounds for a production i think in layers, i already know that the kick or bass have got to have the lowest frequency and i also know that the hihat must be the ceiling of high frequency. Whats left is the lower mids, the mids and the upper mids and the lower highs. All the frequencies must be filled out somehow. Each frequency range should have a sound of its own. If two sounds share the same frequency then i would need to PAN them left and right so they dont collide. All this dont have to be true but do provide a guideline for a decent workflow.

Thanks for the advice.
I have been using just a hihat for a click track recently, instead of my normal routine of doing drums first, then bass. Maybe it will help me make better transitions that way also.
Thanks. :)

It makes me do this, is this normal?

This thing is so great, hehe, it's destined to become a classic in the realm of Z2 demo songs. :)

:tu: Making me do the same thing as billstei.

Okay but Howard dancing the same way I do is no test of normalcy.

Hey tboulette, maybe a picture can inspire you then :) Its a screenshot of the total setup for that tune in Cubase 4.
Wow, I really appreciated that screenshot! Really helped me deconstruct the arrangement while listening, and realize that this smoothly flowing piece was constructed almost entirely with relatively short building blocks. I have a lot to learn about composition and arrangement, and this was a nice eye opener! Wonderfully done.
