SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
=====================

Only Windows XP or Windows Vista (including 64-bit versions)
are supported for Emulator X3 at this time.

Follow these instructions to install the Emulator X3 software
on a Windows XP or Windows Vista computer.

1. Insert the E-MU Emulator X3 software Installation CD into
your CD-ROM drive. If Windows AutoPlay mode is enabled for your
CD-ROM drive, the CD starts running automatically. If not, from
your Windows desktop, click Start->Run and type d:\ctrun\ctrun.exe
(replace d:\ with the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive).
You can also simply open the CD and double-click Setup.exe.

2. The installation splash screen appears. Follow the
instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
You will have the option to install:

* E-MU Emulator X
* Chicken Systems Translator

3. You will then be asked to choose the Destination Folder for the
program. The default location is:
"Program Files\Creative Professional\Emulator X."

4. You will be asked to choose the Destination Folder for the
VST plugins. The default location is:
"Program File\Steinberg\VstPlugins"

5. The program(s) will be installed. Click Finish to complete
the installation (when prompted) then remove the Emulator X
application disk from the CD drive.

===========================
Authorizing the Application
===========================

Emulator X3 now uses a different copy protection technology
than what was used in previous versions. There is no more CD
authorizing. Authorization is a one time event done via the
internet or from email using a challenge and response method.
Emulator X3 is also no longer card locked to qualifying E-MU
hardware as the copy protection dongle as it was in previous
versions.

1. Launch Emulator X3 program by double clicking the
Emulator X icon on the desktop or by selecting the Emulator X
item from the Start menu.

2. You will be asked to activate your copy of Emulator X3
software by entering the serial number included with your
master CD-ROM case.

3. Activation can be authorized via the internet or by email.
If your computer is connected to the internet,
activation will be automatic.

4. If you are NOT connected to the internet, you can register
via email using another computer (such as a friend's house,
or public library). Click the "Activate by email via another
computer" button.

5. To activate Emulator X3 via email, Contact E-MU by email at:
http://www.emu.com/support/custsup.asp
Be sure to include your serial number (from your Activation
Card) and the Request Code in the email message.

6. You will receive a return email with your authorization code.

7. Enter or paste the response code in the
"Activate by Email" box and click "Activate".

8. Emulator X3 will then be authorized.

Notes on Installation
=====================

IF AT ANY TIME DURING THIS INSTALLATION YOU SEE NO RESPONSE:
Use the Alt-Tab feature to select other applications. One of
them may be the Microsoft Digital Signature warning. It is
possible for this warning to appear behind the installation
screen. Make sure you have the latest Windows Service Packs
from Microsoft (Windows XP - SP3 or higher or Windows Vista SP1).

InstallShield "IKernel Application Error" on Windows XP:
========================================================

When installing this software on Windows XP, you may be
confronted with a "kernel error" at the very end of
installation. This is an issue with the InstallShield program,
which is what we use to install software on your computer.
Please do not be alarmed by this, as the error is innocuous.
To read more about this error, and obtain instructions on how
to avoid getting the message, please visit this website:

=================
Emulator X3 Notes
=================

* Installing Emulator X3 will replace any existing version of
Emulator X that was previously installed.

* We suggest that you only have on version of Emulator X or
Proteus X installed in any one system. We have no support for
any issues using or having more than one version installed in
any one system.

* The Library function of Emulator X3 has changed and is now
improved. When you first click on the Library tab, instead
of scanning all the banks and presets, which can take up to
several minutes to complete, only specific predetermined
banks and presets are scanned. Click on the "Search" button
to scan and show all banks as before, or use the search and
filter feature to only scan and show the specific search
results.

Go for X3. It's got true 64 bit Op support and can use RAM better. It has afew more features than X2. You also are not tied to there hardware. It works standalone and vst.

Do I own it Yes.

I don't have Receptor.
I have a powerful PC Vista x64 with 8gb RAM. I use 1616m sound card/ breakout box and xboard 61. You can tweak all of x3's parameters with the 16 knobs.

I also have alot of there library as well as sound fonts from DSF.

You can load emu x3 as vst into most DAW hosts.

I've spoken to the folks at E-MU about this (there's only two people left at the company, which is mighty hard to hear since when I was there we had 150 people) and they did have a fair amount of copy protection that would need to be overcome before it could be made to work. . It could probably be made to work, but the fact is there is very little third party support for their product, and to tell you the truth very few people do their own sampling. Having said that, if you DO to your own sampling, this is a great product. I'm not knocking the product at all in fact, from what I can see it really is excellent, but unless a whole lot of people were to ask for it, we are unlikely to support it.

From what I watched of the tutorials I thought it would be alot more useful to me than what's available
From what I read alot of their protection and hardware prerecresites have been reduced to an online or by email authorization.
That said I think I could get it on as a nonsupported but I would like to know before I was stuck with it.
So….PM

OH, your PM is diabled:

Hey Groovology, do you have conections to EMU that would alow you to see if Emulator X3 is useable as an unsupported plugin. duh
