Those XMF's are just wonderful.
Yes, I know what you mean, but, bearing in mind the slight snafu we're dealing with right now, I think it would really be best to wait until an official, stable 2.5 release - which, I guess, is probably unlikely to happen before the next ZPC. Maybe the one after that? And we could even have a 2.5 themed task of some kind.
Also, bear in mind that v2.3.1 is still the official shipping version. v2.3.3 never made it to the download page but was buried in a post here somewhere. Plus, some people (me, for instance) never install beta software on business machines for very good reasons. Tried it once, and paid dearly for it...

Kind regards.

blurk wrote: Hakey, would you be so kind as to update the first page post within the revised deadline?
Will do.
And would I be cheating to make use of the extra time to make my entries less sucky?
 No, that shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks hakey. :-)

TBH, the patches may still be sucky, but at least I won't feel they are rushed and sucky. ;-)

To those who say no to the beta. As discussed in this thread.
You can successfully have both versions on the same computer.
If just to try the 2.5 ver. out.

Hey guys. Poke me when I'm supposed to collect these patches. This has gotten too confusing for my polish brain...

It being possible to have the 2.5 beta on the same machine as the 2.3 release is a fair way short of it being a guaranteed reliable installation. What about those people reporting install problems that seemed to be only resolved by blowing away the existing installation and installing the beta fresh.

By all means enjoy the beta if you are willing, and even use it for the next patch competition if that's the consensus. I'm not out to spoil anyone's fun (though I'll probably sit out a 2.5 patch competition until it is released.) But please don't trivialise the concerns of people who want to maintain a stable working environment (not to mention those of us too lazy to want to keep installing updates every couple of weeks ;-)).

Good point.
"trivialize"...that is not what my post was at all.
I was simply stating an option.

Will do.

(The deadline has been put back a week, so it is now 24:00GMT Sunday 11th/00:00GMT Monday 12th.)

Re: using the 2.5 beta - well, for a number of reasons, I don't think that it would be a good idea to use 2.5 whilst it is still in beta. A beta is a beta afterall. I reckon that the standard shipping version should be the default for future ZPC.

(2.3 is still a pretty good synth  )

Well  from me too. Sorry for overreacting. It looks like we have a consensus, and maybe by waiting we can look forward to maybe having a 2.5-themed contest when 2.5 is formally released.

All,

I had a rogue installer delete all the stuff from my Desktop directory. Unfortunately that's where I kept my PC4/ folder! :(

Sorry for the trouble, but can I have everyone re-send their PC4 entries (reworked or not) to be before this Sunday night? I'll try to salvage what I can from PMs...

What is it? So I can avoid such a thing.

It was a firmware updater for my Brother printer. Apparently the program deletes all the files it automatically uncompresses, along with everything else in the same directory as it. I think I learned a valuable lesson. :)

Oh dear! :-o

I'll edit the thread title to alert people to the problem.
