Another minor problem I noticed last night whilst running through all of the presets in enerygyXT2: When I got to SouthwestSequencer I played around with the Modulation using the wheel on my Oxygene 49. I was playing noted using the keyboard and increasing/decreasing modulation using the wheel. Some sort of distorion was introduced whilst playing this preset only. All earlier presets were fine and subsequent presets appeared to behave normally.

I tried selecting a few patches today under EnergyXT2, Ableton Live Lite 7 and Samplitude 10 SE and revisiting the SouthwestSequencer problem. I was unable to replicate the problem. Some sort of memory leak associated with repeatedly+++ changing presets?

Okay, Bulent, please change the default settings you've mentioned.
How much quality improvement can be achieved with increasing the WT sizes? (Without having a slight amount of drawbacks of course)

Also, the ARP/SEQ section needs some ergonomic tweaking. I hope the skin designer can improve it.

Well, the lower notes below F2 I believe will sound better :)

Else a lot of patches (including mine that you added in a precedent version, but not only these ones ) are heavily clipping in all my hosts ( Including Cubase aso). Sometimes they'll clip when you play a single note, and more than often when you play a simple 4 note choed at full or even medium velocity.

My personal opinion is that these minor details should be fixed before too much people make tracks with the synth and the clipping instruments.

I am also seeing clipping and have been since Beta 18/19. I don't think this is a case of having multiple versions of the same preset on my machine. Before each install I rename the old SMBeta directory and create a new empty directory for the latest version.

Is it possible that you are assuming that BASS presets will only be used in Mono mode when many of them are setup Poly.

Try TRANCE BA TechWarrior or or TRANCE BA TechWave. It is relatively easy to force clipping with 3-note Chords esp. when changing chords.

Yes that is indeed what I am assuming. Should I then normalize ALL poly mode presets to -3 dB by playing 3 notes?

Hmm..........

difficult question to answer. If you fix this then somebody will come back and ask why you haven't catered for 4-note chords....5-notes...etc. Eventually you will end up with a bunch of presets whose master volume is set so low that we won't be able to hear them!

I know that I often have to adjust volume levels when downloading VSTs from the Net. Not a major hassle and encourages the user to at least find the Master Volume control for the VST. Just ask my wife how useful that is!

I think a note in the manual would be a good idea. I can run through them in a couple of days in the Stand-alone SM2 Beta and see where we are. We could decide to scale all mono presets to -3dB and poly presets to -3dB with 3 notes.

Let's see what the preset designers think about this.

Maybe a little switch near the Voicing options? Or a master volume knob what is accessible from everywhere?

Tomorrow hopefuly I'll make another release with EQ & envelope Legato+Mono problems fixed. Of course we'll have more presets too, thanks to Brian and Martin!

Let's see what the preset designers think about this.
Here's my standard process to normalize presets :

I play a midifile with a C-1 root note and a C3 m7 chord ( So 5 notes simultaneously) at max velocity -127- I bar long (some instruments rise )

I adjust volume for all instrumpents. A bit tedious but very efficient. If one instrument is mono it will play only one note of the chord

I also use a precise VST vu-meter with fast clipping detection. If you need a freeware one BLue Cat Audio has a gain vst wich can do the job too.

I always keep a headroom of -around- 0.5 Dbu.

In case it helps

I have no idea whether that process works, but at least you have a process. A lot of VST preset banks sound like the master volume knob was being diddled by a deaf monkey with ADD.

Thus endeth the rant for today.

I'll stick to Laurent's process with some minor modifications as well:

1. I'm gonna press 4 notes at a time C2-E2-G2-C3
2. I'm gonna normalize the max volume level to -3 dB

I think that should be OK for everyone. It's gonna take a while for 400 presets but what the heck :D

Can't you just batch-edit them somehow? :D
Using some kind of shell script or macros in windows?

Anyway, I'll make a few lightie presets ;)
