"mixdown" same output as "direct playback" ?

I found an issue with mixdown function.

Some vst plug-in (like a guitar in kore player) sounds as expected
during playback, but the mixdown-wave-file (sometimes) sounds ugly.

Is there a technical difference accessing the plugin during playback
and during mixdown ? Or should the output be exactly the same (except that during playback there might be some jitter due to cpu load) ?

I'm afraid this is a NI specific issue.

Pljones had the same issue with Kontakt.

Solution was to toggle some setting in Kontakt, i think it was called "Bounce Mode".

Can you find such setting somewhere in Kore Player?

Post

No, I can't find the bounce mode, not even in the manual.
I'm using the free version of Kore player.
But yes, after pushing buttons here and there
suddenly proper sound comes back !?

You are right, in Kontakt (also version with some free samples)
after playing some notes the sound glitches and becomes strange.

But again, is there a difference in principle
when accessing vst plugin during playback versus mixdown ?
(I don't know the vst interface specification,
but I'm interested in some technical principles.
Might be it can be explained in a simple way)

No.

The only difference is that mixdown is done in the user thread while when playing 'live' everything is done in the audio thread.

Just a thought: Can you toggle the NI DFD (direct from disk) switch?
If you turn that off, does the prob still occurs?

Did you also send this issue to NI?

-> don't know where to find the DFD switch.

-> no, too lazy up to now, might be some other user did send this issue to NI ?

Just checking: You don't have any probs with mixdown using other vst plugs right? It is only with NI plugs right?

yes, that's right
(... except for some plug-ins crashing immediately when selected,
but this special "sometimes ugly sound" issue is with NI only.

I now found the reason (might be there are some others) why KorePlayer instruments sometimes suddenly sound ugly.
It seems that as default the mode wheel is assigned to a special midi-control, e.g. to the cut-off-freq. But this comes into effect not immediately but with a delay of some seconds after choosing the new instrument ( and might be after playing some notes). And then this special cc (it depends on the choosen instrument) switches to a new value depending on the current position of the mode wheel of the attached midi keyboard.
