Basic recording setup question

I'm so new to computer-based recording that it's embarrassing, but here goes anyway...

I have the SWA instructional video, but a lot of it is getting lost on me. I have T3, which I'm using in conjunction with the Onyx 1620 w/firewire - attempting to record a guitar onto a Macbook. I can get sound to come out of my monitors (hooked to the outputs of the 1620), but can't seem to figure out how to route that sound into T3.

I'm guessing there's something I need to do in the setup screen, but I don't even know where to start. Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting started with the basic setup to record a guitar?

Once Tracktion is open, go to the settings tab/audio - you should see a list of inputs from your 1620 mixer there. Choose the one or more you would like to enable. Then go back to your edit page and right click the input on whatever track you would like to record on and choose the corresponding input.

If that all checks out you should then be able to hit record - or R on the qwerty key board and off you go.

I may have missed something, but that's the basics.

Also, if that all works and you set out to do more than 1 track you can drag the input icon to another track without going back to the settings page and enabling more inputs, and it beats physically replugging into a different channel on your mixer. This may be brutally obvious - but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Thanks for the reply. Got all of that done and figured out what was throwing me off... Why doesn't the input meter at the bottom of the edit page (in the properties panel) register sound until the record button is activated? Isn't that how I'm supposed to adjust levels - before I start recording?

Do you have "e-to-e" turned on? (master section, just above the cpu meter)

No, I didn't. Clicked on e-to-e and that solved my problem. Thank you.
