Pick two.

The factor of cpu power and user brain is always constant.
There are tons of users claiming that the V-machine is underpowered; maybe we are all idiots and you are the only GENIUS!
Moreover, let me tell you that nowadays you have to do things GOOD and FAST, at least if you wanna be a leader company!
....BTW, if THEY like to stay in the middle....

the context of its power would remain in comparison to other units of the same price and size.
a lot of people had crazy expectations, i mean i laugh when i see people trying to run ivory on a nearly pocket size box.

I'm not able to run efficiently even Truepianos that it's really much different (and lighter) than Ivory...and don't even try to put another VST like a B4 in the same bank (piano+hammond...does it sound so strange to a keyboard player????
Moreover we got a host soft that still cant just transpose VST without an external midi plugin....cm'on, this is ridicolous!

I must confess, although being a great supporter of the vmachine; I've bit the bullet, and bought a laptop. Waited far too long for NI authorisations, etc. I figured I'd need one for work anyway, and I can watch porn on it during particularly long function gigs... For the cover band, it's perfect; 8 different plugs sitting open, on different midi channels, no loading times, no wizard files, no pressing buttons 50 times to scroll to the parameter i need. However; the laptop I don't trust not to screw up on me; far too many cables; the size of my firewire interface is larger than the vmachine. I'm not putting the vmachine on ebay tho; It's kind of like a reliable, faithful but smelly and crippled family dog; whereas a laptop is like a circus monkey that can do all sorts of fantastic tricks, but you never know if it'll turn nasty and throw it's excrement at you... The Vmachine I can take to a country gig on Sunday arvo with a 49 note controller, and happily play wurli and hammond on it, but anything more, it's just not enough. I had high hopes; but it's found a useful, yet underwhelming niche in my setup. When a product comes out that sits in the middle of the two extremes - like a friendly talking dolphin - They'll be onto a winner. But why should it be so hard? Seriously?

I have a question for you V-Machine owners.
With Samplelord, is it possible to load two soundfonts in the same bank (a 75Mb rhodes and a 25Mb piano) and play one at a time?
How easy and how fast is it to switch between the two in live use?
Thanks!

Use the one instance of samplelord - you've got 16 channels in a multi - have them running simultaneously on a different midi channel - it's however quick your controller can change midi channels.lotsakeys wrote:I have a question for you V-Machine owners.

Another option to switch sounds quickly is to use the vmachine in MONO and have 1 plugin sending to the RIGHT and another to the LEFT output. You can then use what is called a 'A B switch box' which guitarist use to re-route pedals and other gear with the push of a single button.
Options for stereo are..
You could also use midi controllers to automate the mixers mute/solo/volume controls and have two plugins on two different channels of the vfx mixer.
And as suggested you can use midi Channels as well which some keyboards this can be done very fast and on others can be a pain.

It's kind of hard to know what way the V-Machine manages the RAM for samples. I've loaded small enough files only to see them swallow up all the RAM, but either way it makes no difference. Samplelord streams them anyway. The specs say it has 512mb ram, how much of it is actually available for samples?
I have a 1.4GB harp sound that loads no problem at all.

The available ram is 512mb - 64mb for a ram disk which runs the entire opperating system from ram. So around 448mb is available for plugins to use which is more than enough for 98% of plugins which I have tested on the V-machine. Having more gives zero performance increase, it only allows plugins which require more to actually start working. The menu now has a counter to show how much of the ram is used at any time you wish to check, if you dont reach 99% then you dont need to add more.lotsakeys wrote:The specs say it has 512mb ram, how much of it is actually available for samples?
The ram disk is used so that everytime you turn on the vmachine a fresh opperating system is created and all plugins are essentially re-installed on boot up. If you remove plugins by unplugging a usb stick then the plugins are 100% uninstalled leaving no traces behind. Nothing can be left behind as it was all in RAM.
This is the reason we use wizard files and the big difference between our system and the other products on the market. Our hardware will remain stable and wont bog/slow down over time. Everytime you power on the unit you essentially have just formatted, re-installed the opperating system and all the plugins just been installed.
