Just bought it the other day, awesome synth, they really put a lot of attention to detail with this one. I find the presets very underwhelming though, not very musical, are there any cool 3rd party sound sets out yet for this baby?

In designing the algorithms I always used x2 oversampling at 44100 Hz, anything higher will sound better because of less aliasing and more bandwidth, but like Andy says, it's usually not really necessary for mixing. Also for Strobe and Cypher with poly patches, if you keep the voice count to a multiple of 4 you will get the most efficient use of the SSE2 optimisations which allow for 4 operations at once.ZenPunkHippy wrote:On a 2009 Mac Pro 2.26 GHz it's a totally different story. 4 or 8 x oversampling in real time mode, many instances of each synth and high polyphony. 4 x oversampling sounds amazing, but isn't really necessary for mixing so generally keep them set to 2 x.
Hope that helps.
Peace,
Andy.

Thats quite encouraging actually, thanks for that. By the time I actually get around to getting the synths, i'll have upgraded my machine so it will cope with no problems at all.ZenPunkHippy wrote:Macbook Pro 2.16 GHz Core Duo. 3 1/2 years old. Oversampling is set to 1 for real time. All synths work great, Fusor works great. Can run several instances of each synth no problem, with or without Fusor. Amber is the CPU killer, but by keeping the voice count to 1 as per the recent tip, it's not a problem.
CPU doesn't automatically go straight to 100% when using Fusor. It depends on the patch. Some factory presets are completely unusable on this system, so I don't even try.

Quick Tip #11 is online - introducing Fusor's S&H modulation sources...
Enjoy,

I've made some preliminary templates for using these in NI Kore as they really work best when used with real knobs to tweak.

I notice none of the fx versions have any presets which is a pity because I haven't a clue how to even get a sound out of them but suspect Cypher in particular could make an awesome sound mangler.

@firepile: you're a bad boy
Using Synth Squad as FX processors is quite easy, but you have to send a MIDI note on to trigger the envelope. It might help to have "Hold" button turned on so the envelope remains active.
Strobe: the Noise source in the oscillator section becomes the external source.
Cypher: the first oscillator becomes the external source, and yes you can mangle the the incoming sound beyond recognition using the 2nd and 3rd oscillators. Very cool.
Amber: the 2' oscillator in the synth section becomes the external source. The formant filter is obviously great for processing pads, among other sounds. Ensure the sustain setting for the synth envelope is set so the sound does not decay after note on.
Peace,
Andy.
*note: two edits because I can't read or type today.
