According to that logic, Sampletank 2.5, Sonik Synth 2 and Miroslav Philharmonik will give me about a trillion times as many 'synthwaves' by using multis...

If it is streaming, why does it require 4GB of RAM? Isn't that the whole point of streaming samples - that they don't reside in RAM?

I'm sure the support tech will send you your upgrade when they've decided whether you really, really want it enough...

At any rate I enjoyed the videos and feel that trilian is going to become a superb addition for many, though I have a feeling only those with the state-of-the-art computers will be able to run it without allot of workarounds.
Exactly. There is no need for it to 'require' 4GB of RAM, other than piss poor programming. But I'm sure many here are foolish and gullible enough to be able to convince themselves that the fact that it DOES require a ludicrous 4GB of RAM (for BASS sounds!) means it's 'powerful' and 'amazing'.

Hi Harry_HH,

The RAM requirements are for the extremely detailed multi-sampled acoustic basses (you can almost hear the flesh burning off the fingertips). I will tell you that for many of the patches, 2 Gigs has proven sufficient for me. There is a "lite" mode as well that removes enough of the samples so you can play some of the larger patches on systems with less RAM.

Best,

Haven't Spectrasonics heard of disc streaming?

Still, if it brings your PC to its knees it must be good...

Spectrasonics does have disc streaming. Doesn't it work in cracked copies?.

By the way, Sample Tank licenses sell at $40 at the Market Place right now. I thought you would like to know about it:

OK, clearly we again have a case of someone utterly hating a company and every little thing they do, no matter what it is. :)

Omnisphere does disk streaming, and since it's very similar to Trilian in many ways, it's a safe guess that Trilian streams too. Oh and it also says on the Trilian features webpage: "High Definition streaming sample playback". However, streaming still requires you to keep a part of every sample in RAM, and the more an instrument has separate samples, the more RAM it takes, streaming or not. In one of the Trilian videos, Eric says the acoustic bass has over 21,000 samples, so it's easy to see how Trilian could use a lot of memory even with streaming. Nothing can be done about this, no matter how good or bad coders they are.

It has already been said many times in this thread that Trilian does not absolutely require you to have 4GB of RAM to start, and even load some sounds. Omni has the same min requirement for RAM, and here I am using it with a computer with 3.5GB without any problems. (EDIT: And now the official min requirement for Trilian is 2GB, not 4).

In the game business, it has been a long tradition for game publishers to give way too low min requirements for their games. This is something that is constantly under a heated debate, and lots of gamers complain how their computer that just meets the min reqs barely runs the game with the lowest quality settings.

It seems to me that Spectrasonics has just gone the opposite route, and wants to make sure no-one comes back complaining how their computer ran out of juice. Also, Spectrasonics is probably smart enough to understand that no-one is going to make a song with a setup where the only thing in the computer memory is one instance of Omnisphere or Trilian. You probably need RAM for many other things too (OS, host, other plugins, etc). Even if you can easily run Omni/Trilian and even load many of the sounds with just a fraction of 4GB.

All that being said:

Omni (and Stylus RMX and probably Trilian too) do seem to consume a huge amount of memory (without any sounds loaded) compared to many other plugins. That is something that really could be better. I don't know where all that memory goes.

Of course, all this is part of a larger issue, namely the 4GB limit of 32 bit apps. Memory is cheap, but currently it doesn't help how much of it you have in your computer. I'm waiting for the day when I can go fully 64 bit. That day, I'll just load up as many instances of all my plugins as I please, and don't even bother using them multi-timbrally. I don't care how many gigabytes it takes. And if I run out of memory, I'll buy some more. :D But until then, it's a constant battle against memory running out...

A suggestion for Spectrasonics, I'm sure I'm not the only one suggesting this, and you are probably already thinking or even coding something like this: a memory server like the one in Kontakt.

Everyone....please note that the Trilian System Requirements page was changed right after the website went live due to the misconceptions and confusion this spec has seemed to cause.

http://www.spectrasonics.net/instrument ... ysreqs.php

The current System Requirements are:

• 2GB RAM (4GB or more recommended for multis)

This is a better and more accurate way of describing what we were trying get across.

Please note that there are lots of super-efficient bass sounds in Trilian (there are several of the legacy basses that only use a few megabytes), but there are a few multis (like the new Acoustic with 10,000-20,000+ samples in a multi) that would be very tricky to load into a 32 bit 2gb RAM system that's using lots of other simultaneous plug-ins, etc.

However, there are options we've provided for using these sounds in lower memory 32-bit systems too. We have some very useful real-time sample thinning options in the software, where you can limit the number of round-robins, legato samples and how deeply the samples are loaded.....and we've also included a special "training mode" which is a way to only load the samples you need in the key of the song you are using.

There's a simple "Lite Version" button that will do all of this kind of thinning stuff for you automatically too.

And of course the 64-bit native approach is the ideal way to go to use all the newest sounds in all their glory with tons of other simultaneous plug-ins, etc.

Hope that info is helpful! :-)

PS. Trilian does indeed have streaming.

Yes.

The patch library on the 1.0 discs is just a very small demo library of the synth capabilities of Trilian. There are hundreds of very cool new Trilian synth patches in the next edition of the patch library which will be released as a downloadable free update next week.

We also plan to add many more synth patches for free on an ongoing basis.....just like we have with Omnisphere.

If you update to the latest versions of Software, Patch Library and Soundsource Library on our site, then you'll find that the "Check for Updates" feature is now fixed too.

Cheers,

spectrum :-)

Yes, it was incredible! I didn't even realise you could buy about five hundred different models of HD resolution camcorders for under £200...

And they couldn't even afford a tripod.

What are you talking about, Christianmusicmaker? Anybody can shoot video of that quality using any HD camcorder on the market. What on Earth does "Shot with an audience it appears" mean? Is that supposed to be something in the video's favour? Quite obviously Eric Persing was talking to an audience throughout... Did you have a 'Rapture' while watching it?

When you say "Spectrasonics does have disc streaming. Doesn't it work in cracked copies?", don't you mean "Omnisphere does have disc streaming."

Why do you think I have a cracked copy of Omnisphere?

When you say "Sample Tank licenses sell at $40 in the Market Place right now", I take it you mean ONE person is selling their licence at that price... Are you also suggesting that I have a cracked copy of Sampletank?

Oh, I see... that negates everything FACTUAL that I've written previously. Stupid of me.

Not only are you a rude, spiteful little boy/girl who obviously hates Spectrasonics and their products, but you also talk very rude to others that are involved in the discussion. Next time, maybe you should think long and hard before you decide to post something critical that has no bearing on, well, ANYTHING.

here's a link you might be interested in, honkeytankey

http://www.cottonbuds.net/

having watched this same bull-shizzle escalate in the same way not so long ago in an omnisphere thread, i reckon it might be that you just need to clean your ears out......

if you're happy with miroslav, sampletank etc then good for you ...who cares......they were quite good in their day...i still really like my miroslav...it has great character.....todays libraries are much better though and need more oomf to run it

no one is saying that you need to keep on the bleeding edge of technology to create good sounds.....just by updating that zx-81 of yours to 16k might allow you to be a bit more adventurous

seriously though........what do you think spectrasonics have to gain by cutting their sales potential to only offer this to people with bleeding edge technology......they are trying to make the best sounding, ultra playable (did you see that artculation/live mode switching) instruments.....they are succeeding

the sounds that are the most impressive in erics demos all have such character that i'd find it really hard to believe them not sitting well in a mix....the buzz of the strings on the electric bass is gonna really cut through if your music is dynamic enough that it pulls back at points

the other thing to consider is that, in my opinion, the most 'standout' of sounds here would more likely be featured in music that was a lot more dynamic to begin with....no boom , boom , 4-to-the-floor......more open dynamic stuff.....open jazz stuff, with a virtual 'jaco' (r.i.p) at our fingertips

the sounds that you are talking about probably can be done in other synths, but as eric has explained, those sounds have relatively low memory usage

why don't you link us to some of your music.....who knows, we may all come to the same conclusion, that this isn't the instrument you're looking for.......move along

-----------------------

anyways, as reason has pointed out , you are just plain rude and should maybe think a little more before you open your mouth :-o
