OK, let's say you can't hear the finer nuances of the bass sounds in most songs you have, using the monitor speakers you use right now, using the listening skills you have at this point in life. That's possible, and perfectly OK.
But I don't understand how that leads to the conclusion that if you can freely choose between a tool that seems about sufficient for a job, or another that might sometimes be overkill but clearly does the job better, you should just settle for the "OK" tool?
Do you have to pay something or does someone hit you in the head for every megabyte a plugin uses in your computer? Are your computer resources somehow sacred, and you should do everything you can to constantly keep as much free RAM in your computer as you can? If a bass plugin takes 30GB on your hard disk, do you have to pay a tax for that?
After having loaded all you need in memory, it simply doesn't matter if you have 1GB or 10GB of it free. Everything works just as well.
In real life of course, you might not have enough RAM or CPU, and the dreaded 4GB limit will probably prevent me from fully using Trilian until I can go 64 bit. But once that limit is gone, I will happily use all the biggest and best sounds I have, all the time. Maybe I can't always hear the difference between a 1000GB and 1MB bass, but what the heck. Someone else might, and I know I have become better and better in listening to different kinds of things in songs during my life. Maybe one day I'll be happy I used the better sound. And even if not... I lost nothing. Well maybe a couple of minutes waiting for the bigger sounds to load.
(EDIT: And just to be clear - it totally depends on the situation what works. Sometimes a simple quantized synth bass sounds the best, sometimes a n+1 GB multi-sampled monster bass. I don't mean to imply that sounds that take more memory are automatically always better.)
