I'm not bothered about the price of Helix, but refuse to fork out money on something with an unusable interface.
It looks nice, but the most important stuff is so small, that it is almost impossible to read...
But... the "big central slider" can be seen from anywhere.
FIX THE GUI - And think about renaming the presets, noob is old.

Not, it is not overpriced. It might cost more than you or i are prepared to pay, but the price is exactly what its dev wants it be so its right.sonkeysankey wrote:Helix is overpriced in the current market.
If the dev isn't out to earn as much as he can all your "basic economics" mean nothing.
And as for the Camel Audio group buy: I wanted to buy 2 soundsets but didn't have the money to buy both right away.
I would have bought both eventually though.
Thanks to the groupbuy i only pay half the money, good for me.
Camel Audio only gets half the money for their stuff, imo not so good for them considering i was ready to spend more and now the money will probably go to other companies.

sonkeysankey as usually stretching the facts to get his points across. The Camel Audio group buy has certainly been successful but it's NOT the amount of purchases that they have listed. It's the amount of points. Alchemy scores 3 points and the effects and bundles 1 point so there are nowhere near 1500 Alchemy users in this group buy, at least not yet. So please, sonkey.. stop spreading miss information just to get your points across. Keep it real.

Talk about twisted logic...uselessmind wrote:Not, it is not overpriced. It might cost more than you or i are prepared to pay, but the price is exactly what its dev wants it be so its right.sonkeysankey wrote:Helix is overpriced in the current market.
Well what the hell is the dev doing? Trying to earn as little as possible? Are you serious? Why even bother charging any money for Helix, if the dev isn't out to earn as much as he can? Why would anybody not try to earn as much as they can, for their hard work?uselessmind wrote: If the dev isn't out to earn as much as he can all your "basic economics" mean nothing.
And that applies to the other 2,500 people who have just joined the group buy? Nice try, but no cigar.uselessmind wrote: And as for the Camel Audio group buy: I wanted to buy 2 soundsets but didn't have the money to buy both right away.

I have to laugh at these people who say *I* wanted to do so and so - therefore everybody is just like me.

How dare you criticise Helix - don't you know it's perfect and cannot be improved upon in any way? The price is perfect, the interface is perfect, and nobody is allowed to say otherwise. That's why it's so incredibly popular, and this forum has so few threads - because nobody has any complaints or suggestions about it.John-E34 wrote:I'm not bothered about the price of Helix, but refuse to fork out money on something with an unusable interface.

I do apologise. I wasn't spreading "miss information" (whoever she is) "just to get my points across", it was a genuine mistake.bmanic wrote:sonkeysankey as usually stretching the facts to get his points across. 833 buyers of Alchemy at $125 = $104,125 FOR ONE MONTH'S WORK (for SpecialSpecimen's benefit).
Is it not one month's work? Am I missing something here? In October, when CamelAudio didn't have a group buy, they worked for one month, and made X amount of money. In November, for another month's work, they have a group buy, and make a shedload more money. Please enlighten me SpecialSpecimen...

So, are any of you Helix owners going to recommend that anybody who doesn't own either Helix or Alchemy, pays $149 for Helix, rather than $125 for Alchemy, this week?
I won't wait for factual, logical responses, because I know you have none.

GB and now I'm in for Alchemy, though Alchemy is a little harder on the cpu its current price is unbeatable. If you check my postings you'll find that I did a thread asking/suggesting a Helix GB but it has not happened. How ever I never did ask the developer(Jonas Norburg) directly which would have been a good common courtesy, a bad oversight on my part but probably beyond the point now.
I will own Helix before the year is up however as Helix is a GREAT instrument.

I don't know exactly what his reasons are, but i remember him mentioning that selling as much as possible isn't the most important thing to him.sonkeysankey wrote: Well what the hell is the dev doing? You have to substract the calculated future expenses for supporting 833 new users.sonkeysankey wrote:833 buyers of Alchemy at $125 = $104,125 FOR ONE MONTH'S WORK (for SpecialSpecimen's benefit).

That was your insinuation, and while it applies to YOUR purchase, as far as Camel Audio is concerned, they obviously make MORE money by reducing their products to half price, as the success of the group buy shows - and there is still a week to go. So your anecdotal evidence in no way negates anything I've written about the success of group buys.uselessmind wrote: Thanks to the groupbuy i only pay half the money, good for me.

I lost interest in Helix when it went commercial at $149. Had it been $49, I wouldn't have been able to resist and would have bought it on the spot, so would hundreds of other people, thousands probably.
Alchemy I couldn't resist at $125, I've been using the (very generous) demo for a week now, and just had to have it because I know I won't be able to buy it at that price again. Even second hand it wouldn't be that cheap, plus I get all the bonuses. How is the developer able to offer more and more bonuses, the more people join the group buy? Simple - he knows that he is going to get that much more money, the more that he sells, so he can afford to offer incentives, so even more people join up.
Jonas would be better off selling the rights to Helix to somebody who actually wants to maximise the profit that can be obtained from it. Just look at this forum! What is it - 28 threads or something, after a year and a half? (I can't remember how long commercial Helix has been out, please correct me if I'm wrong.) If this isn't a shining example of how not to price and market a product, show me what is.
In a few years' time, when Helix is just a distant memory and hardly anybody is (still) buying it, somebody else here will be making threads about Helix: the synth that never was. What a waste.
When the market is flooded with competition, compete on price. That's exactly what CamelAudio are doing, and patently it's working, and we can all see exactly how much they are earning from it. Result: everybody is happy - hundreds of people get to buy what is widely accepted as probably the best synth on the market today, and CamelAudio get to make a ton of money for a month's work.
