I have a disability.
When I hear marketing speech, my brain shuts off and stops processing what I'm hearing or reading. Alternatively I just get annoyed and have an insatiable urge to leave or make it stop.

This actually happened here on KVR with a member who was selling something legitimately, (the post is probably still there) but I literally couldn't figure out what he was selling (due to the above disability). Turns out that he was in marketing as his day job and it bled over into his sales pitch for what he was selling. Turns out he was a nice guy and I got the straight dope from him, so it ended happily ever after.

In this case, though, I didn't switch off. I actually read the whole thing and was quite entertained. Personally I think you're crazy for dropping that much dough on gear in a year, but I didn't get any "used car salesman vibes". And while there is certainly some hyperbole, I felt it was more for dramatic effect and not intended to mislead (but I could be wrong).

I don't work in "marketing" (though give my disability, that would be hilarious.. I wouldn't be able to proofread my own copy!), but I work in related fields (web application development) and I'd say it might be nice to have a "stats" section in a sidebar and a header explaining that all the text is the "making of" or "behind the scenes" creative process that lead to the samples. Also, your color scheme could use some work, plain red, white, plain blue, black, sky blue combined with a very narrow 520px space for text and 720x space for the entire content section is very inefficient and not pleasing to the eye, its also just plain silly for any screen resolution above 800x600.

I listened to the demos, I think you need more demos, both "raw" (using only your samples) as well as full tracks using them, in more genres.

The free sample pack is nice, for myself I really like the samples with the Hrd prefix (I like it hard..), how many of those samples are included?

I'm about 33mm from buying this actually. :D
noise and beats: Negutyv Xeiro do people actually click these?
gearlust: Roland JP-8000, too much/not enough eurorack
machinecode by: u-he, Bitwig, Fabfilter, NI, et al

There's probably a good 60-70 HARD sounds. I actually stayed light on those... while the Culture Vulture can go extreme, I wanted to do "Driven", not "Distorted"...
I used a lot of tools, but the Vulture is the one that goes HARD : )

My rule of thumb was to listen dry, listen all in the RED, then back it down somewhere in the middle that sounded right. A track can only take so much harmonic distortion until the power in the music goes away. I left room for drum buss and mix buss compression.

cheers-

Nathaniel

download the demo sounds and decide for your self, i mean, come on, 80-90 bucks??? if you can't afford it for that price, you're probably _not_ the target at all ... i don't mean any harm, but this dumping-mentality really get's on my nerves ... like it - buy it, don't like it - don't ... simple as that ... advertisement either way, go and check out for yourself, that easy ...
It's not nitpicking, it's called feedback and is intended (speaking for myself, at least) to help the OP. It would be a shame if potential buyers were put off by the sales pitch - that's all there's to it.

That said, I think this is a great value for money, but not for me, as I either use drum synths like uTonic or tweak samples from "natural" sources (like the great tonehammer libraries) to get original sounds. But if anyone is looking for the straight-up and well-loved sounds of yore (and today), you should definitely check this out.

Thanks for the feedback.

I want to add to your post. This isn't really a library of straight-up drum machine sounds taken directly from the source. It's really a different beast.

For the plugin guys, it's kind of like PSP Vintage Warmer, but instead of a VST emulation, it's real tubes, steel transformers (nickel, steel, iron), ATS-1 Hardware Tape Emulation, and some envelope shaping from the Distressor and Mutronics/Moog.

I used these tools as synthesis, rather than bulk processing. Each sound was tested through different chains and combinations. One sound was best with 2 stacked nickel transformers, the other was good with a NOS 1957 French Mazda tube and some subtle tape compression.

Everyone of these tools has a very unique sound signature. However, when driven, all of them have a natural compression and limiting that is program dependent. But, the attack stays authentic, rather than squashed.

This is what adds the punch, and the harmonic distortion adds the warmth and depth.

It's kind of like when you use the line on a mixer, like a Mackie, and drive the signal a bit. Except, each channel has 2k-5k of processing with higher quality components. AND, there's a very wide variety of flavors.

It'd be incredibly expensive to run each channel of any drum machine through these chains in real time. That's why I ultimately began sampling.

These tools are generally things that recording engineers would use, but not necessarily on electronic drums. And most electronic musicians would prefer to spend that wad of cash of some cool FX, Synths, or Plug-ins.

So, now some serious effort is available really cheap, considering.

best to all,

Nathaniel

Sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound like that. I realize the time, effort and the investment that's behind the sounds.

Best of luck with the ongoing sale!

Wow! Those are pretty strong implications. Are you sure you've thought this through? This is only your 13th post on kvr. Posts like this have a way of spinning out of control. Just a friendly warning.

I could be completely wrong, of course.
YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG. FULL CLIP.

You brought on some personal issues and accusations that border on calling me a liar, so I'm going to clear this up.

1. I am Nathaniel Shreve

2. I've released many records, but not on Thrillseeker Recordings. I was
going to launch that label, but didn't trust the P&D deal.

here's one of my new songs coming out on Kompute in January:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/m5nnhulqyym/1 ONE.mp3

3. I have not attended ANY internet marketing seminars... LOL.

4. I did also work as a VIDEO production/editor for 10 years. I was FORCED to place money into retirement. No option otherwise, automatic deduction. I was laid off when my girlfriend was 6 months pregnant. I did drain my entire retirement account and spent it on gear, which is pictured. I figured I partied enough in my young years to prevent me living to 65 anyway.

5. I'm not that young. Old enough to be producing for 16 years.

OK. The site and story doesn't work for you. Cool. DON'T BUY IT. Please... don't buy it. I don't want you to. This isn't for you.

Seems quite a few people DO enjoy it. They enjoy the sounds, the demo, the gear, the technique, the story creating it.

Someone from Roland today wrote telling me he loved the sounds and processing. Evil Nine wrote today saying they loved the sounds.

RE: 997 copies. That is 100% true as well. I don't lie.

You are right that in the end this won't be very profitable. Not when you include the time, gear, taxes, marketing expenses, etc. I'll be taxed twice... once as a business and once as an employee of that business.

BUT, I'll have added value to 997 people's life, made the best library I know possible, spent time at home with my daughter, and I didn't have to put on a monkey suit and go beg the man for a gig.

Do you think a major software manufacturer would send their ENTIRE mailing list an announcement for this library if it was a scam? LOL. No. His face is sitting to the upper right of this message.

It's 100% real. It was a VERY significant investment. The product delivers. The testimonials are all real.

I have fun taking risks and adding value. Best year of my life.

peace!

No, I'm quite serious, the claps didn't work. I had to locate the samples manually. No big thing, but I figured the feedback would be appreciated.
So you think I was referring to the claps? In that case, never mind....

Post

Haven't heard anything about the Claps.

Demo has been downloaded a 1000 times.

Anyone is welcome to try again:

Thanks for the link. Looks like some good tips that will help those who are interested in the library make the right choice.

In case anyone wants an education, here's a link on how to make FLASH Banners:

I challenge ANYONE to find something untrue on my site.

And I won't waste my time trying to convince you of anything. Not worth it because you represent the worst kind of ignorance. Someone who's made up their mind in spite of anything else.

Have fun living a jaded life. I'll have fun making cool samples and sharing them with people who enjoy them. Since you've made up your mind, why don't you go away. Like I said, this isn't for you. No loss on either of our parts.

AND, BTW... I really don't see anything different about what I'm offering in terms of the content of my site and other library providers.

There's facts, screenshots, audio demos, 100+ free sounds. Testimonials from people who've used the sounds...

Do people honestly have a problem with trading $77 for that much intense work? Sorry it couldn't be free... honestly. But sometimes it takes someone a lot of time, energy, and money to contribute to the greater good.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people on KVR have read the site and purchased the sounds. I think if I was selling a .zip of porn they would have posted by now.

peace-
