the way I see it you need 2 or possibly 4 mics, maybe 2 condenser and 2 big membrane, if you add up the cost of those eleven mics and divide than on 4 mics instead I think you will much better mics.

electromechanical parts have a few parameters that can be better or worse.

Distortion, how much does the mics deviate from the source sound
Max spl
Linearity
Build quality
Resolution, can you detect/record very subtle sounds and changes in sounds.

Whats your reasoning with getting 11 mics instead of 4 much much better mics?

I'm not saying you need top of the line stuff but usually good enough is good enough.

In about a year or so I will get one single mic, a measurement mic, cost like a grand, and I will do everything with that single mic, I just dont see the need for all these goddamn mics.

this is how i will build my unprofessional studio if I ever build one:

computarz - core i7, with the best shizzle available

interface - lynx, rme, echo, motu for like a grand or 2

speakers - good full range floor standing speakers (doesnt need to be "monitors" since this dont mean jack shit today)

subwoofers - pa-shit phl/jbl/b&c one or 2 18inch is enough

amps - like 2x100w for the main speakers (most likely denon or nad) and some behringer poweramp for the subwoofers

active crossover - dbx 234

headphones - akg/sennheisers, 2 closed, 2 open

30-40 maybe 50 sq meters room, diffusors for the first side wall reflex, thick carpets, maybe some helmholz resonators (basstraps)

mics - 2 earthworks or b&k mics

hardware mixer can always be nice to have, wouldnt know what to get but unproffessionally i would get allen&heath 4 or 6 chan dj mixer or rane.

thats it, done.

now having read this thread I would suggest the OP to DONT BUY ANYTHING NOT A SINGLE GODDAMN THING.

First use the computer you have, get a 100€ mic, produce and release one album with your current computer and single mic, then when thats done and you know what you need and probably exactly what to get start thinking about building a studio, seriously if you cant make something with very basic stuff there is no way in hell 12 grand worth of gear would do you any good.

Dont take this the wrong way but before you learn how to run first you have to learn how to walk.

More control on each individual drums, and more control over the room sound. I suggest a dead booth though if you don't have a great room.

In fact he's got some pretty good mics in the list for drums. To have the right mics is a good start but it doesn't mean it will sounds right if not treated correctly.

BTW 2 x AKG414 is a very good mics setup to record in stereo anything you can think of. It is a very good investment(cost a lot but truly worth every penny)
