first I havent read the whole thread, second i dont know shit about mics

But 11 mics??

the way I see it you need 2 or possibly 4 mics, maybe 2 condenser and 2 big membrane, if you add up the cost of those eleven mics and divide than on 4 mics instead I think you will much better mics.

electromechanical parts have a few parameters that can be better or worse.

I just dont see the need for all these goddamn mics.

i have a choice of around 50 models, multiples of most
if youre recording live drums for example, along with a percussionist, a full band, youre gonna need more than two mics for anything other than an xy pairing, which can sound cool of course but also reduces the options at mixing.

im not even that anal when it comes to micing, i know some engineers who will have 3 or 4 mics on a kick alone

Different mics for different applications. If you're recording live bands, you need a lot of mics ... some engineers use more than 11 mics on just the drumkit.
