FR: Render in place

I realise that there is currently a mixdown option for tracks, but would it be difficult to implement a one click render in place function so that when I click it, it renders the track with FX applied and inserts it directly as a new track in the composer window?
I know there are workarounds for this, but I always liked this easy functionality in Tracktion.

I know I am bumping an "old" thread, but I was watching a Catanya video using another DAW in demo, and they easily took the output from the mixdown of simple Catanya and simple chords, creating a new track, then "disconnected" it from it's source and edited as new. I have not been able to see how to do this???

When you do Mixdown, you have the option the immediately insert the result into the composition. It's the "Create New Part Using Result" checkbox.
Besides this, i do agree we could use a more finetuned 'freeze' system, i.e. a system which allows to easily switch between frozen and editable versions.
That's one of the main items on the whishlist.

I am not sure of the outcome, but here is the question. I have tried several ways of "mixdown" with the same null results. It appears to be exactly what I would want, the results of a track, with all of the processing captured and then rendered to a new file or channel. I initially thought it was a bug in Catanya, but I then tried it with Arp4midi from Xoxos in the same slot with the same null outcome. In rack A, create a sequence of 2 & 3 note bars, out to 48 bars, then place Heaveny Bells as the instrument and MASTER at the bottom. Works fine. I now add arp4midi above the Heaveny Bells, sounds wonderful, (I had done this with Catanya before, fine sound, no new creation either). I then choose Mixdown from the File menu, Audio File, choose a folder and name, (it should let me alter or append an already created file name rather than type it over) choose "Create New Part." If I turn off the Arp4midi, a new wave is created and placed in a new track, and sounds fine. If I turn on the Arp4midi or Catanya, Mixdown creates an empty line, straight, nothing in it, correct length, no sound. If I choose New Sample, it doesn't matter if I have the Arp4midi turned on or not, straight line, no sound. I try Exporting Midi, still no sound or variation on line. I read the help section, not sure of what I an doing or not doing.

I checked some things and there may indeed be an issue when mixing down (parts of a) composition using VST plugins that send MIDI out.
I've added a note on the M3 todo list and will research this more in-depth asap.

MU.LAB 3 uses a new strategy for handling VST MIDI output. It's practically not possible to implement this in MU.LAB 2.x. So please try this again with MU.LAB 3, once it is released.

Pleased to hear of the continued development on M3, the mixdown aspect should be a winner, along with the other elements that you are working on. I had sent a PM through this forum, offering to assist on Beta testing, if you still need another hand in the works. I consistently find MuTools to work more intuitively than several other tools I have available, this means that I find myself "playing" longer, without having to research tools or procedures. Best to you.
