Why don't more developers create AUs as well as VSTs?

To elaborate on Topaz' post, it's definitely better to have a fewer amount of options that are very good than a lot more options that are sub par. For the longest time I wanted z3ta on Mac, but then I realized that Sylenth is actually better than z3ta and Cakewalk sucks.

That's very likely also. And Synthedit and SynthMaker can only produce Windows-compatible VST plugins.

Even if they could produce for other platforms, most of us who use those applications as development platforms would not see nay value in being ripped off by Apple just to test them for Mac users. After all, most of us would have to buy a Mac that was more expensive than our own PCs, just to help out a bunch of people who are too stupid to use a PC effectively. There's no upside whatsoever, because such morons are likely to treble your support load through their ineptness.

Sure, but it's really nice not to have your choices limited so severely, isn't it? I only use a very small number of instruments and effects but absolutely none of them would be available to me on MacOS.

Very true, but I fail to see the relevance of such a statement to this thread. e.g. Can you show me an AU synth with a superior filter to Wasp? Don't bother looking, no such thing exists. That's all it takes, one thing you cannot afford to be without, and the whole argument comes crashing down.

If you seriously believe that, why are you speaking about quality? Sylenth 1 is a one-trick pony compared to the incredible depth of z3ta+. Although I've not tried them back-to-back, so I cannot say which is worse, neither has a great filter. Or maybe I've just been spoiled by working in a host brimming with great filters? Either way, working on Mac would be abandoning quality for me and settling for second or third best, at best. You choose your software, then you choose your OS. Doing it the other way around is what leads to this kind of whining.

Well, as a Mac owner you sure do have fewer options. I wonder how u guys have got along without 64 bit audio apps and plugs? Its coming along on the PC. For a Computer that claims to be on the cutting edge, thats a bit lame isnt it?
