Cheers ghettosynth. I wish I could remember where I read this?ghettosynth wrote:I don't know about the mopho, but that works on the matrix-12, the synth with the slowest envelopes on the planet...makes nice pads though!stonestreet wrote:Hi chaps

That wasn't quite the original question. I know, I'm the OP. What I was trying to get at was could I find something decent in the vintage market used that wouldn't be too fussy, was at least 4 voice polyphonic and had preset memory for around the price of a Tetr4.ghettosynth wrote: Someone asked if the Tetra/P08 could replace a vintage synth. I gave an honest answer based on experience with and knowledge of polyphonic analog synths. If the question was about monophonic synths or modular synths the answer would have been very different.
The answer is "no."

The Prophet 08 oscillators *are* analog.ghettosynth wrote:At minimum an analog synth has analog oscillators.
Yes, the Prophet 08 is an hybrid synth in the sense that it combines both analog and digital components, but the audio signal path is fully analog. There are no ADC or DAC stages in the audio path.
Unless you don't consider stuff like the Junos and Matrix synths to be analog, either.

ghettosynth: I would LOVE to find some of the synths you listed for the prices you listed. The truth is I've never seen any of them for such low prices, or even twice as much
. By the way, Microwave has completely digital oscillators.

Nope, not in the UK. I remember that it's much easier to find old audio gear in the UK, for good prices. You have it easy there.
My point about Microwave is that it doesn't have digitally controlled analog oscillators (which is what has been previously discussed). Actually K3m also doesn't, has single cycle waveforms.

As does the Korg EX8000 if memory serves. (I owned a DX8000 many moons ago...)Shy wrote:ghettosynth: I would LOVE to find some of the synths you listed for the prices you listed. But back to our scheduled programming. I too can't seem to find the synths mentioned at the prices mentioned... though I did find an MKS70 at good prices and I might go that route. I wish I could get my hands on one though before I went all crazy on ebay.
Another thing that keeps pulling me toward the Tetr4 is man I dig that software editor and a little part of me does believe that one day they'll release a VST version.

ghettosynth: heh, I found some very good priced synths in the UK, just international shipping was a problem with some. In Bulgaria also, much cheaper, but shipping prices are ridiculous.
zerocrossing: yeah, a plugin would be very good, I don't know why they haven't made it by now.

Yes, they are. A pulse signal from a clock generator/divider is analog since it is a continuous voltage. Digital signals are obtained by a sampling and quantization process. The waveforms produced by the Prophet 08 oscillators are neither discrete in time nor in voltage, and thus are analog. They may be discreet in frequency (because tuning is digitally controlled) but that does not make the signals discrete.ghettosynth wrote:No, they're not.fac wrote:The Prophet 08 oscillators *are* analog.ghettosynth wrote:At minimum an analog synth has analog oscillators.
