A couple of specific design-related questions:

1. When the two LFOs have their "Phase" knobs set to equal values, their outputs are 180 degrees out of phase. Is that deliberate?

2. [Edit: was getting something weird with serial filter configuration, but can't reproduce it now. Oh well...]

Shareit complained about having to verify the paypal transaction :x
Is this normal when paying with paypal? I've never had any problem like this before.

Edit: "Unfortunately, the PayPal transaction for your order failed." Damn :(

Post

I really hate shareit. when I bought Ace last week I had no problems at all, but I've had a lot of problems in the past. :( I hope you guys get it all sorted out.

Urs! man, this synth is THA SHYIET!!! Well, I don't actually have it or the demo or the beta, but the examples on your site are marvelous!!! Simply marvelous. Like Nando 'n shyiet. Perfect for old, old, OLD school stuff. Meaning, it's perfect for fledgling gray-beards like myself. Awesome work!!! :)

Tangerine what??? ;)

I have to agree! I admit I wasnt swayed by Zebra 2 although admirable in attention to detail and quality and feature rich as it was didnt strike me as my kind of synth as it didnt quite have the character of what i was looking for. I LOVE FM synthesis and MODULARITY and with all the options for feed back, simplicity and EXCELLENT sound quality I do believe that this going to be THE SYNTH for the new year!!!! :phones: :tu: the price is awesome too!

Next i have to by a Buchla!!!!!

Alright, I've had enough with shareit. On top of it all now I have contradictory information between paypal and my credit card issuer. Please let me know if there's any other way of paying for the synth, Urs.

Hi Urs,

just wanted to give some feedback on first impressions with ACE:

Other than most people on this thread, I found ACE pretty confusing at first - and solely because of the internal default routing.
Without reading the docs, I found it impossible to understand how things are patched up internally - why does it even make a sound without cables? ;-)
Even after reading the docs, I find this extremely counterintuitive in a modular synth and always have to recheck the schematic.

Also it is unclear to me, which things are doing what when which in- or output is or isn't connected.

I also find the naming of the knobs misleading, because they don't tell what they do, but what their internal default connection is set to... which no longer holds true as soon as I attach a cable...

I personally would love to have a button on top of the UI to disable ALL internal connections between modules and explore the possibilities from a really neutral point. If the knob-names would change to something neutral at the same time, it would be perfect.

As a second-best, I would love a skin (similar to the one done by PaulSC but even clearer) that shows the internal signal flow. Although this would be much more helpful if it would change according to what is actually going on when you plug stuff together...

So as much as I love the sound (fantastic! ) and the basic design of the GUI, I'm not that happy with the overall handling - for me personally, by trying to make it easier to use (I assume?) you made it harder (at least for me).

CPU use is pretty extreme, and since it doesn't use more than one core, my 8 core MacPro doesn't help much with the load.
Many sounds I can't use at all. Would be cool if ACE would support/use multithreading (or the GPU if that would help...).

Other than those lines may suggest, I still love it :-)
So "Cheers" and thanks for this brilliant Instrument!

Personally, I don't find it that confusing, probably because I've used TimewARP 2600, which basically also has labeling for default connection that can be defeated by attaching cables. I think they follow the same design principle here.

But I think it might help if labeling can change based on the source from which the cable is connected. That could probably make things less confusing.
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

Yeah, this is one area where Bazille is perhaps a little bit better, in the sense that the routing is built up from scratch so the rudimentary building blocks are a little clearer to understand and visualize.

I purchased ACE a few days ago, but must admit I have no idea how to program it yet.

If things could be made clearer, it may make my life easier when I decide to stop using presets, and start making them... I was not going to spend much time programming until the official release, as things often change with beta's.

One question though... I can open ACE, and then open one of the skin images, and the image presented within ACE is always DARKER than the original skin image.

I mention this because the default skins always appear too dark (Zebra2) so I always batch edit them to lighten them up somewhat.

But with ACE, it seems to darken images all by itself...
