Zebra is just too cool. Every time I work with it, I find some new cool thing I can do with it.

+1 on that. In fact, Urs himself rocks. Such a nice, easygoing presence here on KVR, too (in contrast to a certain other very talented softsynth developer, who seems to take a somewhat more Preussian approach to customer interaction). 'nuff said…
If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Me too.rictheobscene wrote:Zebra is just too cool. Every time I work with it, I find some new cool thing I can do with it.
Just discovered some really crazy stuff using the new XMF filter modes, again.
ACE also is a winner.

But super CPU hungry. It spatters out on my 3Ghz dual core. But I love the 50% of presets that don't. Are all presets available in draft mode? I don't mind working in draft if I can render out those nice fat sounds for a final piece.

You can set quality to "draft" on a per-preset basis; that's the only way at present.objectman wrote:Are all the presets available in draft mode?

On what presets? I have a E8500 o/c to 3.82 GHz and I think ACE is not that bad on the CPU. I think this had to do with the host. I've demo Ableton Live 8.1 this weekend and even a simple Zebra patch makes the CPU oscilliate to 5-20%. That same patch take 0-1% in energyXT. I think the biggest CPU spike I've seen in ACE (in XT) was when I did a big chord (8 notes chord) with a pad sound (can't remember wich one, was a preset with draft quality but that I've switched to accurate) and the CPU jump to 37%. I thought it was big because I've never seen this before for only one stynth but there's still plenty of free CPU available.objectman wrote:But super CPU hungry. It spatters out on my 3Ghz dual core.
And all the tests were done with an audio buffer of 64, the lowest I can get with my soundcard.

Hmmm... I have horsed around with most of the presets and have not encountered the issues you are alluding to. I have not specifically been looking for anything like this, but I will pay closer attention to it.objectman wrote:But super CPU hungry. It spatters out on my 3Ghz dual core. my presets were designed on a crappy quadcore 6600..the problem with adjusting the quality of presets if created in "accurate" mode and then switched to "draft" is that you'll need to make a few adjustments to the filter settings as unpleasent hissing can occur just by doing the switch..not on all presets but someobjectman wrote:But super CPU hungry. I think objectman was probably referring to ACE (U-He's newest synth), not Zebra. ACE is a CPU eater, whereas Zebra is pretty efficient. They are both fantastic synths.rictheobscene wrote:Hmmm...
