Props for the Runciter

To be totally honest, I never really used the Runciter. When I tried to use it as normal filter it found it very harsh sounding, and it's name wasn't to coherent with the other Uhbiks.
But lately I starting tweaking the envelope follower of the runciter and that thing is capable of such razor-swift envelopes! The modulation sounds really smooth and you can get really great percussive effects with it. Trying other filter types and envelope modes it can produce really cool effects.
So if there are others that also feel that the runciter didn't really do it, just give it another spin on some percussive or dynamic material and get creative with the envelope follower, it can really add a lot more freakyness that your average filter plug in.

What do you use it for mostly? I would be really interested in some ways how other people use it.Download SOphist wrote:No way, runciter rulez!!!!ThomasKoot wrote:So if there are others that also feel that the runciter didn't really do it
That's true, especially with the resonance and drive. But that can also get really cool stuff by having a limiter as safety net accros your output. You can then just freak out with all parameters.Use with caution

Runciter is a character in the Philip K. Dick novel Ubik, for which the package is half-named. The UH is the dev's initials.ThomasKoot wrote:To be totally honest, I never really used the Runciter... it's name wasn't to coherent with the other Uhbiks.

I doubt this track is everyone's cup-of-tea, so you'll have to forgive my unusualness, but in this track here I've used Runciter for both the organ-like sound (passed through Runciter, then through Aether) and the "elephant" type sound: http://soundcloud.com/elxicano/bad-mouthThomasKoot wrote:What do you use it for mostly? So in this track, I used it for color saturation and for some harsh distortion.
Really, this is an amazing filter because of it's flexibility.

I like the elephantelxicano wrote: the "elephant" type sound
Runciter doesn't really do anything transparently but I think it can be set subtly enough to be an alternative to a boring corrective EQ on an instrument. I think I tend to dial it into that sort setting, then tweak the weight of the effect in the mix usually via fine-tuning the resonance and cutoff/modulation. I think sort of the 'presence' frequencies of an instrument can really scream with the right Runciter settings. In this application I tend not to like it as much on low-ish mids or lower since that's quite a bit more of an effect-y sounds.ThomasKoot wrote: What do you use it for mostly? For more creative applications, I like Runciter with MIDI automations - whether feeding in from an arpeggiator or something for the MIDI 1 / 2 modes, mapping knobs to MIDI, or using the external mod source (e.g. modwheel, maybe even better pitchwheel if it's springy
I was screwing around with mixing tracks DJ-style in Live and found Runciter could be effectively used during crossfading, or stacking a couple of loops ... it's really touchy but it's great for mutating a loop spectrally to fit in with some random other set of sounds.
[e] Also something like delay/verb (maybe some other modulation effect)->Compressor->Runciter will completely warp the signal, but a lot of at least sonically if not musically great, weird things can happen.

More of this and less usualness if you ask me.

Really trippy track man, I don't know what to make of it, but I like it. It seems like it should go into crazy Venetian Snares breaks ala Rossz csillag alatt született or something.lazerkind wrote:Nice track, thanks for sharing it.elxicano wrote: I doubt this track is everyone's cup-of-tea, so you'll have to forgive my unusualness

I also love Runciter, the "tearing" quality the envelopes give voice recordings is really trippy. But its great for straight up distortion on drumloops and synths, as well as more bread and butter but colorized basic filtering and auto-wah type sounds.

I'd love to listen to this, but SoundCloud has worked for me a grand total of once - my very first visit there, when I was so impressed I signed up. Since then, it has never worked. No matter how long I wait, the waveform graphic never fills to indicate file loading, pressing the Play button does nothing, and I end up going out into the night and killing someone.
Kind regards.
Kind regards.
