Tracktion is a little odd in as much as it is the clip that is assigned to a MIDI channel, not the track.

A more annoying issue is that individual notes cannot have their own MIDI channel assigned, so if you wanted to program a drum track for a sampler where each sample sound was on a different channel, you'd have to spread the whole damn mess over a number of tracks (which wouldn't be so ugly if it weren't for the lack of track collapse.

I'd like to see notes also have their own MIDI channel property, and the clip MIDI channel simply be a short cut to modifying all notes within that clip in one pass.

I have an Audiophile 2496 (PCI).

On my mixer, I have my microphone channel panned all left, and my guitar channel panned all right, so that they are sent discretely on the left and right 'tape out'.

In Tracktion, I have split my audiophile's input so that it's NOT treated as a stereo pair, but as two mono inputs.

The guitar and the mic seem, indeed, to come in on discrete channels; however, things are still not quite kosher.

"Analog In 1" is treated as a Left channel, and outputs only to my left speaker.

"Analog In 2" is also treated as a Left channel, and outputs only to my left speaker.

Meanwhile, this is reflected in the level meter in the bottom of the screen when I have the input selected, but the smaller meter filter on the track shows both sides going up and down (which I would expect from a mono input, after all)

SO:

1. Am I doing something wonky with my mixer? Isn't this a good way to do it? I've never tried using a mixer in this way before.

2. For the Audiophile users: is there something I need to set up in my Delta mixer? I didn't particularly see anything wrong... but although when panned right, my mixer only shows the level meter rising on the right side, my Delta Monitor Mixer shows levels increasing only on the left.

3. Is there something I need to change in Tracktion? I'm 99% sure it's an Audiophile thing, since the mixer seems fine, and Tracktion only seems to be doing what the Delta Mixer is indicating.

Anybody have any ideas?

I've never tried it, si I don;t know how well Tracktions's dual mono works.

A possible workaround to fix things could be to slap a patchbay filter after the track and wire teh left node to both left and right output nodes. This should re-centralize the track.

All is definitely not well in Lunch Money's little computer studio.

After trying the patch-bay filter, it seems clear that the problem is at the Audiophile's level. No matter how I route my audio, it only comes out on my left speaker.

Even if I take my patchbay filter, and point the left input to right output, it comes out in the left speaker.

Left --> Left = Left speaker
Left --> Right = Left speaker
Left --> Both = Left speaker
Both --> Both = Left speaker
Both X-> Both = Left speaker

Right --> Right = Left speaker

etc...

Now, I still have my SB Live installed, just because I wanted to prove that it can be done to a disbeliever. Perhaps they were right all along, and I should just swallow my pride and admit it.

I don't really USE soundfonts anyhow, and besides, there are several free soundfont player plugins.

I'll give it a try later. In the meantime, if any Audiophile users have any ideas, let me know.

I have no doubt that this a pretty silly question, but I've just purchased Tracktion, I'm new to computer recording and I haven't been able to figure it out yet by myself.

When I'm recording onto an individual track, both before I press record and during recording the sound level of the track doesn't show up on the, level meters. Only when I'm finished recording and I play the track back do I see it. Is this the way it's supposed to be or am I not initialising something?

Sounds like you need to turn on end-to-end, both on the input device itself, and for the whole edit (button down near the transport controls).

Great, I'll try that later on, thanks Jules. I'm a total newcomer, so it's all a bit new to me. That said, I still felt I had a grasp of the application in about 10 or 15 mins, which is amazing.

Apologies if this is a DS1/Rewire question rather than a Tracktion question...

Does anyone know of a step by step guide to getting DS1 and Tracktion working together? I swear I'm going mad...

If not, please read on.

DS1 seems to be working fine stand alone.

Put a rewire filter on a tracktion track and select Unity DS1 in the lower panel and an endless set of
"Unity DS1 engine is no running, unity via rewire is disabled" messages appear.

So quit Tracktion, fire up the DS1 control panel and restart Tracktion. Add rewire filter etc... and no errors (great so far...) but once a midi clip is placed in the track system freezes... and eventually returns but really slow... (as in unusably slow).

Machine is 1900+ AthlonXP with an Audiophile card and 512MB RAM.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

How do I delete an entire automation track? I can delete nodes, but uncertain about how to wipe out a whole track.
