sluggish and unresponsive GUI problems

Hi,
This is a question for SynthMaster users:
Have you experienced SM to have a sluggish and unresponsive GUI ?
On my PCs where I tested SM, the GUI problems manifest in buttons needing more than one click to switch on. Normally I click on a button and nothing happens, I then need to click again and it works. BUT, very often I have to click three, four, five or more times to switch any given button. Just to give you an example:
- it took four mouse clicks to switch legato on.
- it took three clicks to switch chorus on.
- it took about 15 ! clicks to switch chorus off.
etc, etc...
I also experience a problem with very sluggish knobs, which don't turn but jump.
Something is very wrong. Is it my test system ? Intel Dual Core 1.8Ghz, 1 GB RAM, Windows XP SP2, soundcard Eacho Indigo I/O. This GUI problem is experienced in standalone mode, in Sonar 6.2 and in Chainer. This is what I have tested so far.
According to KV331 there are no other reports of this problem. Am I the only one ? If so, is this my system at fault ? I have tested it on two PCs so far and both give the same problem. My main production PC is in service, but I suppose it would probably fair much better as it is one of the latest Intel Quad Cores, and yet my Dual Core laptop should have no problems ? What gives ? I run huge CPU monsters on this laptop and I don't have any such problems.
It is very frustrating. Any ideas ?
Thanks.

There was a slow loading gui issue before, but I haven't came across anything like that before. Nowadays Synthmaster works like a charm.
Maybe that you have SP2? (why didn't you patch to SP3?)

Good question. I don't know. I just leave things alone if they work. I don't have any problems whatsoever with all my other plugins running on my XP SP2.rectus_dominus wrote: Maybe that you have SP2? (why didn't you patch to SP3?)
I have SP3 on my Intel Quad Core, so once that's back from repairs, maybe it will handle SM much better. But I still wonder why two of my PCs have problems with the GUI ?
Besides system spec for SM specifies minimum as XP Sp2. ???
So it must be something else.

I don't know what kind of issues should an SP3 upgrade bring though...
And I don't have a clue either

I will wait for my Quad and see how SM runs on this PC.

Well, apparently on your system the user interface is constantly updating. Has to do with the gfx card or OS, dont know really.

But this is on two different PCs, it's not just one system. You have all the details already. The problem is so severe, that I am really astounded to see nobody else experience it.
I wonder if it's to do with the graphic envelopes and LFOs. As I mentioned to you in email, Alchemy had a similar problem, where the GUI was behaving in a sluggish way when its multi-segment envelopes were in view. Once they were not in view, with for example the standard ADSR envelopes showing instead, all was well. This was experienced by a lot of users and was corrected very fast.
The reason I'm thinking along these lines is that, once I switch to the browser view in SM, all is well! Food for thought ?

Well, I'd love to fix it asap, but cant reproduce it. I guess you're the only one so far with this problem.himalaya wrote:This was experienced by a lot of users and was corrected very fast. Anyhow, let's try to debug further now:
Could you please open the file \Config\SynthMasterConfig.txt and change the following line:
Log Level=None
to
Log Level=Debug
and then save the file?
After that could you please run SynthMaster standalone and go through the tabs one by one and then exit?
After you exit, you'll find a log file: /Logs/SynthMasterLog.txt
Could you please email it to me?
Thanks! Let's see if the logs tell something different.
Regards,
Bulent

I've already reported a problem with SM2 taking 20 seconds to load on Windows XP/SP3 when I have a few Kontakt Instruments already loaded. Possibly related to some weird RAM issue. However, other Synths will Load fine under the same set of circumstances. I'm getting a bit fed up with this SM2 Synth. It doesn't seem to be 'finished'. All I'm hearing are promises about things getting fixed lately. If I had money to burn I'd probably not care so much!

First off, you are the first one to report this problem. Here are my followup questions:Aloysius wrote:I've already reported a problem with SM2 taking 20 seconds to load on Windows XP/SP3 when I have a few Kontakt Instruments already loaded. How many instances of SM2 do you have in your session?
How much RAM do you have in your system? When I run SM2 standalone it consumes 126 MB RAM on my Windows task bar.
What's you CPU?
Does this problem only occur when there are Kontakt instruments?
Are you running the latest 2.0.3.1 version?
What's your host application?
And dont you think your comment is a bit harsh/unfair ?
I dont know if you have been following the development of SynthMaster, but we've been working very hard for this project. And because of that we delayed the release a couple of times to bring a stabler product.
So what's your criteria for us to be a 'finished' product? Take Sylenth for instance, people have reported that it has a memory leak bug:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=237362
Do you think with this bug it is a "finished" product? IMO, yes it is.
We had a similar bug during our beta period and because of that one we delayed our release to be able to fix it and we fixed it.

I also have a problem with the GUI in SM2
-Load SM2 into eXT and taskmanager reports eXT's CPU usage as 1%
-Open SM2 GUI and CPU usage jumps to 75%
-Change to either voice or synth FX tab and CPU jumps to 95%. Knobs and buttons become unresponsive and jumpy. Until this point eXT's CPU monitor doesn't show the increased CPU usage visable in the taskmanager but once the FX tab is open I start to see random CPU spikes in eXT's monitor
-Go back to any non-FX tab and CPU drops back to 75%
-Close SM2 GUI and CPU drops back to 1%
Is this issue likely to be fixed as it is making SM2 difficult to use?
One other minor thing is that sometimes the FX knobs seem to require linear mouse movements and sometimes circular movements. This happens particularly with the 'amount' knobs.

I'll try to debug this GUI issue with eXT. I hope I can reproduce the issue.
