To vote, please post your (numbered) first, second, and third place selections from this set in this thread. If you entered, you must vote! First place translates into 3 points for the patch, 2nd : 2 points, 3rd: 1 point. Most points wins. Do not vote for yourself!

Results will be tabulated on Dec. 23rd. Best of luck to all the entrants!

In case it helps anyone voting with their decision, here are the contest rules:
The challenge is to create patches that sound like some virtualized component or instrument is broken. While the sounds should be characteristically broken, they should also convey something about what the unbroken sound is like. In other words, there should somehow be a reference to something unbroken.

Also, since the idea is a broken instrument, the end result should be something musical. Relevant YouTube:
- the second part is definitely in the ballpark
- awesome, but this might be a bit too much

* This is a description of an end-point, so no limits on synth / fx grid modules. Of course, it's not about the number of modules, it's how they're set up and connected
* Any source of modulating values can (and some certainly should) dynamically influence the 'broken' character of the sound except -
* One X-Y only may relate to the broken quality of the sound (so, two 'knobs' total). Assume other XYs can be set but not tweaked in real-time. There's absolutely no obligation to use any XYs or make the first one tweak-able in real-time.

Aaaand... sticky!

One submission, "broken strings" (well detailed recreation of a analog-era string synth) came with an mp3 - the author wants it posted, so here it is, stripped of author's identity

http://www.box.net/shared/8v3do6g0o9 (1.2 megabyte file)

(Insert snarky comment about mp3s making anything sound broken, then obvious response about having the patch in the first place :) )

Hmm, voting's going to be difficult on this one. I'm actually somewhat dissapointed with the tameness of what's on offer (mine included), but aside from that there are some very nice patches!

I'll need to play with them for a while longer before I can decided. Narcicistic as I am, I'd almost vote for myself since mine 'sound the worst' ;)
It truly is my talent, haha.
On the other hand, all the other ones are much better patches, and much more widely usable through their use of the xy-pads!

No offense to the user that created the mp3, but I think the reason why you don't see more mp3's posted is because when hakey first started these contests it was agreed that we wouldn't include mp3's. I only point this out because I think a lot of us would have uploaded our own audio demos in this contest as well as the previous ones. If this rule is gone, then it'd be nice to plan this out as part of the contest entry. :?

Eek, I thought we decided mp3s /MIDI were just unnecessary and no one bothered ... I wouldn't mind posting that sort of thing but they would have to be a) separate from the patch collection, b) not at all required to judge patches, and c) limited just to single presets, and d) reasonably short.

In the end though, I really think it should be about patches and anything else is just at one's leisure for voters.

Post

When we were first discussing the ZPC's someone suggested a task based around designing a patch for a set midi file - maybe this could be a future, or even the next, ZPC?

Anyway, no votes yet? :? :(

Post

I vote against mp3's, for what's it's worth. The patch information should contain all one needs to know about usage, in my opinion.
And I'll vote soon, I just haven't made up my mind yet!

due to time reasons I didn't take part in this ZPC. Can I vote even if I didn't take part into the competition? (I guess the answer is yes, just want to be sure)

YES!!!! :)

Voting is open to everyone!! No participation is required!! The more the merrier(<--I just wanted a reason to say that... thankfully, it's true)!!

(but if you participated, you are required to vote)

Maybe Tubular Bells, with requirement to use an FMO somewhere? The FMOs in Zebra are I think straightforward in and of themselves but get *really* interesting in the grid. It's holiday-themed ... I think :hyper: right now but could turn to :bang: at some point.

do we vote open in this thread?

Post

Ya, just post in this thread:

(1) That one patch
(2) That one other patch
(3) Oh another patch

When the votes are tabulated, I'll publish a list of { patch author, patch, points } where a #1 vote translates into 3 points, #2 -> 2, #3 -> 1. The patch with the most points wins.

Voting is -greatly- appreciated by the submitters, so (assuming you vote :) ) thanks!
