The way you're wanting it. I am going to make an alternate "less popular" version where ONLY the foot closes it for myself and anyone else who likes it that way but I think that most people are used to it how you are wanting it so... Merry Xmas! I just did it under the hood in Kontakt and it was super easy to do. All I had to do was put the closed hats into the same group as the foot and it was done.
The reason I personally like the shutting to be done by the foot separate of the closed is because technically speaking you would always hear the sound of the foot closing the hi hat after an open in real life. So you could play both if you wanted. With a hi hat you couldn't hear JUST the closed sound after an open - you'd have to also hear the foot. But this is perhaps being picky about realism. The other reason is that I really like to avoid open hats unintentionally getting cut off so for finger drumming I like the choking key to be tucked away there on the F which is less likely to be accidentally hit. But it's nice to have it both ways. So there you go!
i dig what you mean regarding realism but in terms of playability, at least in the way i approach things, i'm prepared to take that slight hit...especially considering the boost in other areas as far as realism is concerned......
if , when listening to my music, people can pick out the missing foot-pedal 'chink' then i'm doing something wrong
but at least if they both choke the open i can still use it, should i feel something missing
thanks...you're a star...
