Good evening,

Anyone know some good guitar samples that will run on Receptors? I have the Komplete version, so there are the lead guitar sounds that come with Kontakt - but any others that are known to work well that folks can recommend? Primarily thinking mocking up lead sounds, routed through some amp sim/effects, etc. Thanks!

Hi Mr. Hudson,

I've had good experiences with Strawberry Electric Guitar from Orange Tree Samples. They strike a very good balance of available articulations, playability, and sample pool size. Using this with an amp sim (such as AmpliTube or GR (on another DAW, GR always crashes for me on Receptor)) makes a winning simulation.

Word of advice: You really do need to think like a guitar player when playing these simulations, but the software in the Kontakt player does a good job of keeping you within the rules of what is played on given strings given the MIDI notes you play.

Hope this helps, Best Regards,

Looks interesting, I'll take a peek! Easy to install?

Yep - No copy protect on this one. Just drag-n-drop to your samples folder.

In fact - I own, love, and use all of Orange Tree Libs on Receptor. Great stuff, and Greg (owner) is a great guy - he almost always adds anything you wish to his products - he's a real craftsman! (they've got a great 50% off sale right now too!).

I also own Prominy's guitars (LPC, Stratocaster). These are extremely detailed, and are on the high end of guitar libraries. I have been able to get LPC (lite versions) working on Receptor, but I find the Orange Tree libs much easier to manage.

Other libs have 'frozen in' amp/effects (EastWest libs (Ministry of Rock and Fab Four (not on Receptor yet), Lyrical Distortion, etc) and typically have less articulations. If you are playing fairly simple fifth chords or something like this, they may work for you. I typically avoid these, and stick to amp sims on a direct recorded guitar.

Again, Orange Tree Libs tops my list.

I don't think this is a sampling plugin, but a few of us around the muse office really like the Slayer plugin. It sort of fills a niche role for heavymetal/hard rock/distorted lead sounds, but I think it does so very well. You can try the demo for free by downloading off plugorama and installing on your Receptor.
